1978??? Raleigh Campus restoration project

Hi,

Well, after a couple of days of looking for a classic/vintage bike forum, I have decided to join you here.

For my first project I have managed to pick up a 1978 Raleigh Campus ladies bicycle (I have dated it from the Sturmey Archer hub).

It looked a bit worse for wear when I picked it up and looks like it may have had a bit of a rough life, but thats half the fun.

Here are some pics before I have done anything:

And a couple after spending an hour or two on it with nothing but foil and water:

There seemed to be a black substance around the front of the frame which I have managed to get back to the original paint and also the handle bars are painted silver, which I have managed to get down to chrome, mechanically it seems just to need a rear brake cable.

Looking good! Probably want go through all the bearings, cleaning, inspecting and regreasing. Riding old, dirty grease will eat up bearing surfaces quickly. Amazing what a little elbow grease will do for the looks of an old bike! Welcome to the C&V nuthouse!
