Hello.

New to bikes, just moved to seattle and wanted to get a bike to commute with. My friends said he had one he never uses and gave it to me.

I have no idea what it is worth, what the parts are worth, or anything--really i want to know what is origional/vintage and should not be replaced, and what is not origional and I can replace to make my commute/the bike ride better in general.

attached are some bad photos of stuff--would love to know what the parts are worth/the bike/what is nice and what is cheap.

Thanks in advanced, I can provide additional pictures of anything if needed.

You have a real classic there. All the parts are original except for front derailleur and saddle. All the parts should perform just fine after a cleaning and lube. The brake cables and gear cables should be replaced.

Really your bike needs a good cleaning and overhaul. If you know someone that is into bikes and could assist you in cleaning and greasing, that would be a big plus. If not, spending a couple hundred dollars at a bike shop that knows vintage bikes would be a good investment. As it sits now you could get at least $200. Being in Seattle maybe much more. All fixed up $400.

Your friend is a good friend!

Bikes: Schwinn Paramount P15, Fisher Montare, Proteus, Rivendell Quickbeam

The tires on that bike are worth more than most cheap bikes.

Gitane Tour de France. Classic bike. Buy your friend a 6 of his favorite micro brew.

Thank you for the detailed reply!

I am very new to buying parts and such for road bikes, so thank you for the information. He is a very good friend indeed.
I will do some research on the cables and such.

Very nice bike. Definitely get all the bearings regreased (hubs, bottom bracket, and headset) and have all the cables and housing replaced. Then you'll have an excellent riding bike!

Get a new chain and chain rings when you clean it up. Your large ring is very worn.
