Inappropriate Language On This Forum

Does anyone else feel some members cross the line with the use of inappropriate language ? I for one feel they do. Maybe its time for those who run this forum to step up to the plate and take appropriate action.

Might define what you mean by inappropriate..Helps to know what the boundaries are...This could be a George Carlin kind of exercise..."The whatever number of words you can't use on TV."
Couple words are socially unacceptable...Yes...But,then like when you get reared from behind by a pink Cadillac with an anti-cyclist nut cake, you just might get a little animated..
My view about profane words...Try to be polite, but prudenism can go too far to.

I'm sure this fellow would agree with you.

Let us appoint John Q. Public the Official People's Thought Censor in the Struggle Against the Imperialists here at www.bikeforums.net

Just let us know where the inappropriate language is. We'll take it from there.

We really do try, but with the size of the forums and the number of posts that get started everyday, we can't catch everything. We depend a lot on people hitting the report button on a bad post, and from there, we can mop up the mess. I think we get about 18 pages of new posts every day. That's something like 450 posts per day to go through. Some are quite lengthy, and should count as two or three posts, like when FX John posts in the Politics and Religion. But we'll do our best. In the meantime, if there's something we missed, just hit the report link in the bottom right hand of each post.

To add to what Koffee stated,

Also keep in mind what is tolerable for some is not for others and for others still is not even a swear word. I believe there has to be some level of discretion when removing words. There is a certain level of words most people will agree are obscene (they are typically blocked immediately with *****). Those are typically the ones that are censored actively. Otherwise unless it is a personal attack they will likely be left.

To censor everything that could potentially offend a small number of users (while I might add offending an equal or greater number being censored) would not only be a tremendous workload to keep up with but also be pushing some limits of posting freedom.

Really, if you're serious, PM a moderator. However, please be aware that they are very active in these forums, and have deleted more than a few "out of hand" threads. My impression is most are unpaid volunteers. What's the membership fee again?
You impressions are correct (although it is all, there are no paid volunteers here)

Well, looks like the charter.net mailserver is claiming that the from address belongs to either a mailing list or an alias but is unable to fully verify the members.

And this from a person who evidently lives in a country that proclaims liberty and freedom of speech as the cornerstones of its being... hmmm....

Maybe he should go gander at The Aussie Thread. That will cure *anyone* of demanding old-school censorship!

Well, now that he is banned, I'll just have to paitiently wait for the kung fu style strike of revenge - as promised in his email to me. Perhaps it will come in the form of a large. evil, marshmellow man?
