Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

If you hooked that up to a Sturmey 3spd. fixed, you could down shift while skidding, by hitting it with your crotch while you lean over the bars! Skid contest winner every time.

I used to have one of those shifters on one of the bikes when I was a kid. It was the hit of the block, everyone wanted to ride it.

I love to think that all the Japanese kids had crazy shifters for their excessive huge bike machines.

love the intake cooling fins on the chain ring... but I think they are facing the wrong direction in order to draw-in air to cool the obviously over heating chain and BB from hauling all that weight

Bikes: Surly Cross-Check (commuter), Lemond Sarthe (sports car), Schwinn fixed gear conversion (for fun)

I am glad that never got popular. See now, for me to deal with that, it would have to be like a 40 cm frame in order for the twins to clear that gear shifter.

Positron -> shimano's early attempt at indexed shifting. Indexing was in the derailleur, not the shifter.

Front Free -> the freewheel is built into the bottom bracket instead of the, well, freewheel. so you could shift while coasting.

Uniglide -> uniglide. Cassette precursor to Hyperglide. among other things, instead of a cassette lockring, the smallest cog was the lockring.

where's my dollar?

Positron and Uniglide are American automatic transmissions from about the 50's.
Front Free...dunno, the front hub is a freewheel?

positrons are antimatter, so if you have a "positron front-free uniglide" system, it means that the electrons in the atoms of the molecules of air that are going thru the hightech FF turbo fin can't front when they collide with the positrons. see, the positrons call 'em on their **** then they annihilate them and E=mC(2) tells us that their mass must be converted into energy. the resulting gamma ray photons propel the bike forward in a single direction (i.e. uniglide).

it's really too technical. i'm sure homeland security's gonna have that auction taken down faster than the thread on the anally friendly spoke card.

Positron : Icky early indexed shifting.

Front free : fixed at the hub, freewheeling occurs at the bottom bracket.

Uniglide : early cog profiling to make shifting happier.

Combine them, and whaddya got?!

A totally bogus, but way cooler explanation in my book. You won. Paypal on the way.

Those aren't intake, those are exhaust.
