I am in need of a new saddle for my recently acquired Bianchi Squadra.

It needs to have some padding, be comfortable, and not break the bank if you know what I mean.

Is there anything out there that fits these criteria?

Saddle's are a pretty personal decision- everyone's rump is a bit different, and different saddles work for different rumps (lots of differences huh? ). My advice- find a LBS that will let you use a saddle for a few weeks, and return it (in good condition of course) if it doesnt fit well. This is what I did, and lucked out. Got it on the first try; a Terry Fly.

Make sure you ride it for a few days though. The fly was pretty comfortable to start (the most comfortable of what I had tried in the store), but as my butt got used to it (over the first 50 miles or so) it just got more and more comfy. Now I dont even realize its there.

I'm sure I've seen online companies who for a deposit send out 6 or 7 saddles for you to try. It might be worth trying less padded saddles as well - personally I've gone from a padded couch to the Selle Italia flite (via a few others on the way) and find my backsides the happiest it's been.

Check out the Specialized Milano. It's extremely comfortable, but light and retains a "road" look. Keep in mind that any saddle you get will require some time for you butt to get used to, but after 3 different one in a year, this ones a keeper.

Give the Selle Italia line a look. Their Pro Link model comes in several incarnations with gel on some versions. I have enjoyed the time spent on the standard pro link model. I have however moved on to a Fizik Aliante Carbon - the best seat ever, with the price tag to match = $189. I have also heard great things about the new Arione from Fizik. Check em out at your lbs, if you have a good one they will let you try a few models so you can figure it out for yourself.

Padding does not give comfort. Introduce your ass to a Brooks and they will start a long and rewarding relationship. I have a Brooks Swift with titanium rails which weighs within the range of other high end saddles but feels fantastic, lasts for decades (YES DECASDES!) and looks absoluely handmade, which it is.

I tried a number of different brands and makes over the years but my 'bum' always leeds me back to San Marco Regal & Rolls.

One saddle that is getting some great reviews is the new Flow saddle from Saddleco.com. The guys at RoadBikeRider.com had about five people try it and they liked it. It's a bit pricey at $129
and available at PerformanceBike.com.

Ahh yes... when I first saw this, I thought Herman Miller had entered the bike saddle market. Then when I saw the pricetag I was almost certain they did.

Don't tell anyone, but I just ordered a San Marco Regal.
I don't know if it will replace my Brooks B17, but I like the
look of the saddle and wanted to give it a try.
I'll let you know what I think. If its anything like a San Marco
Concor it will just get tossed into the pile of other saddles
I've tried and hated.

That said, the B17 has to be one of the most comfortable
saddles ever created
