Need obscure front derailleur...Please Help

Howdy,

I have recently built up a french bike called a Mecacycle Turbo. Short chain stays and a split seat tube so that the rear wheel sits pretty far forward between the seat tubes. My problem is that finding a front derailleur is nearly impossible. The frame calls for a side-mount braze-on style derailleur. According to a couple pictures on the internet Huret was spec'd, although I don't know which model. Can anybody please help? Maybe point me in the right direction to anybody who may know where to locate one? Thanks for any help.....This is the rather lengthy link to a flicker site photo of the same set-up needed.

Neat bike! Love the color. Well the whole bike really. You should start a thread just for it. It's sweet!
I have 2 braze on derailleurs in my bin. One is a Sachs/Huret. It has a collar adapter and mounts from the side. The other is a Suntour and mounts through the front like every other braze on front derailleur I've personanly seen (which is not many). Anyways.....It looks like your bike could take the Suntour one. Does that Huret you have on there now have an adapter? Looks like a strange duck to my braze on derailleur noob eyes......

Welcome to bike forums!

Hope you don't mind me posting a pic or 2 of your bike for you.......I love it!
Weird derailleur:

The money shot.........Soooooooo cool! I want! (In a 52cm please)

Are you looking for an identicle derailleur or a derailleur that will work? It has a single round braze-on the Simplex should work...

FWIW, I bid on a bare frame/fork on eBay a year? ago. I remember the reserve was $400 but it went for more than that.

kpug mentioned a Suntour. Although not original, just to get you on the road a band-clamp Suntour minus the clamp might be adaptable. I've even got an old Cyclone MII without a clamp in the bin so it's not doing me any good. PM me if interested.

RE; Derailleur side mount...

Well, I bought a simplex side-mount once and the actual mount is to "high" on the body of the der. So when mounted the der. cage hits the outer chainring. I have also tried a normal braze-on der. with a bolt on braze on bracket from a carbon bike, like a Kestrel or something but the der was positioned to far back due to all the extra bracketry...

Miami Jim, could you post a picture of the Simplex you have so I can compare it to my side-mount simplex?

Would it work with a compact crankset?

Simplex made at least 3 different sidemount derailleurs:

1. SJA 222 CX...pictured below 'Peugeot' label'?
2. SLJA 422 double, similar to 222 CX but 'better', 'Spidel' label?
3. SLJA 423 triple, otherwisw identicle to SLJA 422, 'Spidel' label?
