In need of a few good writers.
VeloBase.com is in need of a few good writers to increase the number of articles on the site. Right now I have 3 lonely little articles that are in need of some company in the ranks of information on the the website. Right now I'm looking for articles under the categories of "C&V Cycling History", "Bicycle Restoration", and "Vintage Cycling Wrenching". I also have a "General" section for any articles which do not fall under those particular categories. I can handle the formatting into html so don't worry about that. Here's a chance to share your vintage cycling knowledge with the community that will be read and referenced time and time again.
I have a lot of new things planned for VeloBase.com and will keep you all here on BikeForums informed as new things are released. This Community has been a huge help with ideas, feedback, and even finding a few problems hiding along the way.

What does this gig pay?

Are you looking for technical depth, or a wistful recounting of a lad growing up watching his grandpa building wheels at night and other remembrances of getting to spend time in his uncle's bike shop?

cudak888 - sounds great to me, and those headbadge images will also have another home on VeloBase when the new Head Badge Gallery goes live here shortly.
USAZorro - Both are equally as favorable in my book. I certainly don't have any real training in writing nor wrenching nor riding, only a desire to share what I do know with those who can benifit from it. As far as pay - right now other than the feeling of giving something back to the community and your name next to the title I can't offer much. I had considered making this a contest of sorts, but judging something like that would be impossible for me. I just want to give those with the desire the chance.
SoreFeet - I'll get a PM headed your direction shortly.

There's no deadlines, no boss breathing down your neck demanding it by Friday.
I know the winter months are setting in soon for those of you up north so take your time when you can't be riding.
(figured you were kidding about the pay.

I'm thinking about it. I write for several UK magazines (none of them bike ones), and I'm ghostwriting a book, but......I'm also behind on the writing I get paid for.

I have a couple hundred poems and 5 books in one phase of writing or another. All my English teachers up through HS all thought I was crazy for going into computers in college. The only answer I gave was that I hated writing on a deadline.

All my high school teachers hated me but my SAT scores said the same thing.

Jon,
Would you want all my sermons when I mention the word "bike?"

Though shalt remember the lugged steel bike, and keep it holy...
...and on the seventh day, he created quick release levers...
...and when his neighbors espied Noah brazing with steel solder, they didst mock him...
...then Moses did raise his orange water bottle, and the crowds at the summit of the climb parted. Thus did the peloton of Israel pass, whilst the pursuing Egyptians were engulfed by hoardes of fanatical Basque supporters at the peak of the Aubisque...

Bob, actually, I think that would be a great addition!
btw: I'm putting the finishing touches on the new Head Badge Gallery. I've even pre-loaded a few of the head badges from the BF's thread recently. If work load stays low today I might have it avalaible to everyone by the end of the day.

We're trying to recruit Tom Stormcrowe while his shoulder heals. He's got six, seven weeks where he's not going to be able to ride
.
Bad news for Tom, perhaps good news for us and VeloBase?

Starting next Wed I'll have at least 3-4 weeks I'll be in the same boat as Tom. Did I miss the thread detailing Tom's shoulder problem?

I see you found it.
Sorry to see that you are having more surgery too
. I'm hoping to avoid biopsies and whatnot myself--my now annual CAT scan is scheduled for October 15

I don't know what Jon would say, but I think that would be an excellent article topic.

Would this, or an adaptation of this, be of interest?

History of brands is absolutely of interest. As is the decal application and restoration topic. Both things I have personally spent hours researching all over the web. Increasing the accessibility of such information is exactly what VeloBase.com was started for.

Wish I could help, I love history, and I'm not a terrible writer, but I'm way too new in the bike area to do anything.
I will be looking forward to reading them though .

*bump* I had a reply to this thread typed out last night but it got lost for one reason or another. Slept since then and can't remember why it didn't get submitted. In any case, just a check in to see if anyone is working on or planning to work on an article. Also, if you have extensive knowledge of a particular brand of part or frame listed on velobase.com, feel free to edit that brand's listing and add history and general information there as well.
