First time racing Central Park yesterday. Entered the 5's, which they mixed with Masters. Very strange and way too many people. Had to be over 100 out on that narrow course. Speed avg was roughly 26.X mph, 3 laps, 18 miles.
Race started off fast. By the end of lap 2, I was tired from helping close gaps and taking a pull up front. Thought I would be worthless in the sprint. Managed to recover, sneak my way into position and grind it out on the uphill sprint.
I won by inches, pulled aside with numero dos and we congratulated each other. Then the Masters came zipping by for their final lap.
Awesome race.

Congrats to all first time racers and those who lined up this weekend and either did well or did their best. Love reading these!
A special woohoo to bostongarden who really takes the time to encourage everyone in this thread rather than just post a blanket statement...

Well I'm the guy who went out in the CAT 4 race on the last lap. However, Not sure how I could have caused trouble from the back of the 2 who went down. Not sure about the 4/5 race since I'm not old enough to race it. I have video from the end but it sounds like whatever happened was before then.
I agree the 4s race was sketchier than normal. There were some guys riding a tad aggressive through the corners but they weren't LG riders.... I didn't recognize their kit. There were a couple laps where they caused the pack to swing wide.....
Anyway, I'm the short LG dude with all the tattoos. Say hi if you see me at future races

In an effort to make the next 4's race at dominguez safer, I will go off the front to keep the pace high. I will most likely go off the back a few laps later, but for a few laps the field should be strung out which will make it safe for all
I remember seeing your tattoos in the pack. There was also a dude (may have been on your team?) that had arm warmers that looked like tattoos. It reminded me of my 5-yr old nephew who got those for christmas last year and ran around the house hopped-up on cookies showing off his new tattoos. I laughed out loud during the race when I saw that guy...
I'll introduce myself at the next race.

Fresh Garbage
I was there too. Those two guys who dive-bombed the inside of the 3rd corner scared the hell out of me. People screaming all over the place...the whole peleton got pushed/scrambled in what was already a semi-sketchy last lap. Hope the guys who crashed were okay. And congrat's on hopping what must have been a pretty-high curb (and not eating it).

Spring Fling Crit 5 of 6 (Lawrence, KS): Wasn't really feeling it. I thought I had a sizeable lead in points in the series, so the plan was to sit in and win the sprints. From the start, the guy who (I thought) was 2nd in points goes on a solo break. I teamed up with another guy who didn't have any teammates in the race. We decided to let the guy off the front cook until the sprint lap. We make our move, and he's on my wheel because I'm a stronger sprinter. We didn't catch him, but took 2 and 3 in the sprint. Our plan was to keep pushing after the sprint lap and bridge. I decided to pull us up to the break. Just before we get there, I look back and see half the field on my wheel. Super. I burned a significant number of matches to get there, and didn't get any separation, just strung the field out. When it comes time for the finish, it's a pack sprint and I didn't have the powa. Finished 8th or so and was placed 6th with my points from the sprint lap. My ad-hoc teammate takes 1st, and now has a 2 point lead on me in the series.
Time for a new strategy next week...

One of our guys, Team Touch, did go down. He's in not so great shape with a broken thumb, but he'll be up and riding soon enough. He said some guy tried to thread the needle as the field took a turn. He couldn't handle being in between riders like that and started to swerve, lost his cool and took my guy out.

First crit ever tonight. Tuesday practice series. Really crappy turnout for the 5s. I think 7 or 8 maybe.
Three guys jumped out really hard to start, I got on a wheel with the rest, who were going way, way, way too slow. Bridged up to the three without a whole lot of effort and managed to hang on for a lap or so before I got dropped due to my terrible cornering abilities. Essentially TT'd for the remainder, closest I came to hooking back up was 5 or 6 bike lengths, but just didn't have it going into the wind to get there. Only ever saw one of the other guys again, when I lapped him right at the bell. He grabbed on to me for a second but couldn't stay.
Three leaders were up about half a lap on me by the end. Finished fourth. Disappointed that I didn't get a real race experience with such a poor turnout, but I know a lot more about how hard I can corner and gained some confidence in my overall fitness. Could've been worse.

another happy DFL.
I attacked at the gun and got a huge gap. Teammate bridged up to me and we worked for another lap only to be joined by three other guys who weren't committed.
Field caught us and the dogfight began.
After 6 or so more laps the winning break goes, and we have two guys in it. I do some blocking. We don't help much with the chase and do a bunch of attacks to soften up the field. Last lap, someone we all know is strong tried to pull off a solo WR attack to grab 6th. I get my sprinter on my wheel and give it everything. I catch the guy with around 300m to go. I pull off to the right and barf. We win the field sprint. Our guys in the breakaway got 2 and 4. I get thanked for the perfect leadout.

The moment you've all been waiting for! I did my first race.
It was a 4/5 race. There was also a P/1/2/3 and Masters. The course is sort of like a four mile square with very round corners. You race for one hour and then theres a final lap. On one side you have a nice tailwind, but coming back there's a slight hill with a strong head wind. Rashaan Bahati was racing, so you could say I raced with Rahsaan Bahati. Everyone races together, but they each start at different times. So of course the masters and Pros lap the 4/5's. When the Pro's came around to lap the 4/5's, a crash happened right in front of me, but I avoided it.
To sum it up I hung on for as long as I could, but I would get dropped every-time we went into the headwind. Since I was already at the back it didn't take much for me to fall off. Overall I didn't crash ( bad one right in front of me though) and I didn't create a crash, so I'm happy.
I have to say Carpe Denim Racing videos that he always posts of him racing were very helpful, and I thought to myself as we first started off what would he do? I think the trick is staying in the middle of the pack, something I need to work on!
