No problem, your insightful contributions to Centurion info has been invaluable. Specifically (for me) differences in Ironman Master and Expert lugs. I'm waiting to see if there is a difference in weights as well. I'll be tearing down a 54cm expert soon and will weigh it with my new digital scale for future references. Possibly tearing down my 54cm 86 classic and weigh it just to satisfy my curiosity.
Your Ironman looks great with any stem. However I really dig that crankset/drivetrain.
One more thing someone brought up the fact that (as we all know) some years color schemes don't match frame year serial numbers. And so wondered if there's a geometry change in some and not in others in the Same year. That would explain why those that have several Ironmans feel differences in handling and others dont. Or maybe it's just my justification for having so many Ironman.........nah there's a difference. ......maybe.
Later Irongents.

Hello,
These questions may have been asked/answered but the BF search is not that great:
What is the rarest color Ironman, is it summer time blue...any pics?
Is there one IM that is considered rarer than the others excluding the color?
Thanks, Ben

Ben,

Color combination, yes the Summertime Blues Master i would consider to be the rarest color combo. I would also consider the Carbon Ironman to be rarest model of the Ironman's

Im just glad there are others as crazy as i am about this kind of stuff.

There maybe something to that geometry changes, i would expect that we would only see it during the times that there was Geometry changes 1985-1986 and 1988-1989, in theory there could be a late 88 that has a frame that was brazed as a 89 geometry but was sold as a 88 model color scheme.

I really couldnt see a change in geometry between the years there was not thought to be any changes eg 1987-1988

What ya'll think?

Totally agree. I regret not getting the Carbon Ironman when I had the chance about three years ago. I ended up getting an 88 master yellow fade, which btw there doesn't seem to be too many of either.

I agree there were some changes. Maybe it's just my perception. But beyond that, I Know that my 88 52cm masters head tube is shorter than my 89 masters headtube.
My biggest problem is deciding daily which Ironman to ride.

Compounding my daily problem, I've just acquired another Ironman! I'll be picking it up Wednesday. Pics to come.
That means I'll have one 86, two 87, two 88, two 89. I only want/need one of each year so I'll be selling three uh... soon.
I bought this 87 MV for the parts and it is my preferred 54cm size. If it is in cosmetically in better condition than my current 87 MV I'm swapping.
I'm starting to believe that I may have the biggest collection of personally owned Ironman.
Here's the website pics.

Just got this yesterday all 600 and not a scratch on it appears all original and little to little use.

It's too big for me but had to buy it because it is soooo clean, gold anodized wheels no brake wear, Rienhault suede turbo saddle etc. etc..
May try to find some one in L.A. with a smaller one.
Regards, Ben

Nice score Ben that 1985 looks to be complete and original. If you may have noticed the Derailieurs and the brakes have a darker finish than the standard 600.

whats the plans for it?

Axiaom That 85 is sweet and almost exactly what I need/want just need it to be a 54cm or 52cm.

Yes exactly the one he posted. From it I need the aero bars for my summertime blues and the pedals for my 86 classic.
The idea ultimately is to have two 54cm one with aero bars and one road bars. And two 52cm one with aero bars and one with road bars. I'm getting there , I'm getting there.
when I get the 87 54cm Miami Vice Wednesday I'll tear it completely down, give it a thorough cleaning, then decide to keep it or sell it. My other Miami Vice has a stuck seatpost from hell and I'm always said I'd take it out if I could get another 54cm so I may do that. But honestly I rode it like that and it actually made me raise all of my saddles to the same height so possibly leave it if I keep it. I'm trying to get my son yo buy it from me and since he's a bit taller and not a cyclist it'll probably do.
I'm surprised that I'm excited about getting the MV Wednesday, probably just hoping it'll be in better condition than what I have.

fleslider,
Thanks for the pics...I just noticed that a few posts before my ask on rarity there was a mention of the Blue Ironman, I do like the smoke colored bikes.
I am not sure what I will be doing with the one I just picked up....I mean it is 99.99 perfect from the chainwheel to the brake pads almost new....I rarely see things this nice, if it were a 52-54 it would be perfect.
I did notice one almost imperceptible scratch and a tiny nick in the paint but I had to look really hard with my OCD hat on.
Now I need to find the CFIM.
Regards, Ben

I have that version in a 56. Very understated color scheme. I get 'is that a titanium frame' often.

No, the cracks in the paint indicate that the tubes were bent.

Lesterp66,
Yes, I think this is one of my favorite colors other than the purple haze...it does look a lot like titanium.
Just wish it was a 52.

You can upload directly to bike forums. Click on the advanced settings, scroll down a bit, follow the prompts to upload from your computer.

I quit using Google photos or my old Picasa account. Too buggy, and Google doesn't seem interested in making it fully compatible with anything outside their social media and blogger platforms. One explanation is they're converting our uploads to a more compact, higher quality JPEG format that hasn't gained wide acceptance. I dunno, not interested in messing with it any longer.

I'm switching back to Flickr, since I've had a Flickr Pro account for umpteen years. Just haven't used it recently.

Some folks are using Imgur. A relatively new image host, vgy.me, was recently suggested. I took a quick peek but I don't feel like setting up yet another account. So I'm going back to using Flickr.

Agreed. The cracked paint lines going across the tubes and the bubbled paint on the top tube would indicate (to me) frame damage.
