Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I still remember how horrified Mrs. rpen and I were when we went to see "Cats" and found out it was about, of all things, cats. Who knew?

My old boss (now my boss's boss) has a pair of litter-box-trained dogs.

And he's proud of that? Maybe that is why they promoted him...because he is so resourceful.

I am assuming it was not you who was demoted.

She. And no, not demoted. Quite the opposite; she's just gone up more than me. Apparently she told my current boss, though, that I really ought to be her direct report again now, so I may be going up again this year.

It's a set of Lego sculptures at the San Antonio Botanical Garden I went to with Atomic Girl over the weekend. Here are a couple more good ones:

I am starting to make plans to celebrate my 10,000th post in the not too distant future. Anyone got any ideas? (Be nice, huh.)

Absolutely. You could bag groceries for Whole Foods. Lots of cash drawers there too.

What I do for the bank has nothing to do with cash drawers. Banks do a lot of software work, internal and external.

I could go work for MapMyFitness. Or HomeAway. Or Volusion. All would be more interesting and satisfying.

When I was a teen, we talked about girls that had "change in their drawers" as a way of saying they were rich. I guess that is different from a cash drawer, but it just came to mind. Oh, I hope I haven't offended anyone. Boys do talk, ya know. I hear that girls do too though.

I am on the downhill side of a full week of this. Soon it will be back to the normal grind!

I believe I'll buy bicycle parts. Trying to decide if I want to put a better crank-set on my mediocre bike (currently an FSA Viero with chain rings that have to be smacked with a mallet every so often to get the wobble out of them) or Ultegra 6700 shifters so I can put the 105 shifters and a spare 105 RD on my old Merckx to make it 10 speed.

When I smack something (not someone) with a mallet, it general puts a wobble into it. Actually I had a Nashbar compact crank once that needed to be straightened periodically.

I learned a long time ago that the new year will arrive whether I am there to attend to the delivery or not. That frees me up to get good night's sleep.
