Any progress? I've a new vested interest... today found a 1981ish full Dura Ace AX bike (never bought or ridden) from a freshly closed bike shop originally in Long Island, N.Y. But the hoods are sun dried toasted!
I've had stuff repro'd before, so I get the problems w/ small run equipment. Please consider me in for two pair of the light blue ones.
thanks,
Johnny Pergolizzi

I emailed the OP about 2 months ago about the Dura Ace AX hoods and he said they weren't ready yet. I went with the Cane Creek universal hoods and they fit the grips pretty well but will show the upper stainless steel portion that the OE hood normally covers.

Port Washington Cycles in Port Washington, Long Island, New York closed in the 1980's and the owner moved to San Diego. He closed his shop here in San Diego, South Shore Bicycles, about a year ago.

I'd do it if I had time. Urgh, I don't have time for anything these days!!
I will give anyone a vacuum pump if they need it to get some urethane casting going. For free. For real. A real nice science one that is more than up to the task despite being cast off by a science lab. Whatever else sciencey you may need for this project, too. People throw away so much nice stuff around here. Just PM me and I can box it up for you, you can create a Shipbikes fedex label, and you're off to the races.
I would like to add Shimano BL 7401 to the list of orphan hoods to get cast. Beautiful levers, but no hoods available!

Someone made the mold and fabricated AX hoods
But I can't figure out how to order them.
https://shimanoax.com/product/repro-...r-hoods-white/
He also started an AX Facebook group and I applied to join. I'll let you know if I get a pair.

I'm in this Facebook group, and it's mostly discussion and show and tell. There's a current discussion about the set up and run for a 100 pairs of hoods, which was quoted at £3000 up front. There are a few backers, but 100 pairs hasn't been reached yet.

7401 and 6209 lever bodies are dimensionally identical and the hoods are interchangeable. 6209 hoods say Shimano instead of Dura Ace but otherwise are the same.
Sometimes it’s easier to find a nice set of 6209’s for cheap and then just swap the hoods out.
