An easy and cheap way to fly with the Brompton is to simply ask a Brompton store to give you a couple of the boxes the Bromptons are originally shipped with instead of discarting them.
you guys are right!!! It's not only questionable brining the Bromp on as carry-on luggage, but it's also major PITA lugging it around the airport!! I just brought mine back from Portugal to Newark, and next will be taking it back to Frankfurt!! Even though it's less than 30 lbs, it gets heavy after awhile! Since I'm an airline employee, and happened to be working the trip from Lisbon, I was able to put it in one of the closets. But I can't see putting it in an overhead bin. I think we'll buy one of those BW airporters luggage and check it.

The Brompton Black Edition can be emulated with a little creativity and cash - carbon handlebars + seatpost + black stem/saddle. Reduces weight and looks cool. Sure you might not get the exact look, but IMO it's still good.
my wife decided to go for the tempest blue and ivory. It should look awesome! Who knows, we might be hit with upgrade-itis and need to lighten these Brompies. Ti and carbon bits and pieces. Or maybe even get Kent Eriksen or Carl Strong to build us custom Ti Brompie clones.

I use The airport's Luggage trolleys in Europe , and in the Newark international arrival .

but the Exit door to all connecting flights, different Building, blocked it going thru the door and Sky Cap had their greedy hand out on the other side of the door.
and No Trolley (Ok This was 1988)

Never booked thru Newark NJ again.. [I did not book the ones I was using then]

I bought a Brompton with rack because it could roll - while folded - like a dream (in theory - required some tinkering). It's amazing for train stations and malls and supermarkets. It is an effortless shopping cart with a C-bag or basket, that tucks away in a corner unobtrusively - within line-of-sight of course - when I'm browsing.

Without that, I would bought a Birdy which is cheaper and slightly lighter even with dual suspensions and 355 wheels (vs Brompton's 349). Definitely not as compact but the ride is superior (subjectively speaking).

Howdy all! I just wanted to show everyone how I have my Brompy set up to go flying with me. I use caribeeners and a strap about 12" long to afix the Brompy to my roll aboard' steel telescoping handles. I wouldn't recommend it with plastic handles though. I can store it in the crew closet or even in the flight deck if need be. I almost took it with me to Berlin this weekend but decided against it at the last minute (rain on Sat). Anyhow, this is how I'll travel whenever I have 48hr layovers in cool places.
