+1 The Santa Monica mountains. Mullholland..there's quite a bit of trail through the Los Padres National Forest that could be nice. Southern California has the climate and the feel, nice dirt roads, and gorgeous views.
I would like to do that ride. I just have to be upwind from the guys who break out the cigars afterward.
I think there is room to do another though, If I thought of a local venue it would probably include the dirt stretch of Mulholland Drive in the Santa Monica Mountains, but not the climbing of what Italy has overall.

Okay, well, here's an offer.
I hosted a dozen or so members of this forum at my Long Island "beach house" in July 2011 and again in July 2012. We gathered on a Friday evening, rode an extremely varied 116 mile route around the eastern end of the island on Saturday, and dispersed again on Saturday evening or Sunday morning. This year we even included a shorter route, which was a bit more than a metric century. We rode as one or two groups and met up for meals. A good time was had by all, or so they said at the time.
I'll do it again this year. Any of you guys whom I don't know, if you would like to be included, please let me know soon. I probably won't make another public mention of this.
