Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My Engin frame was made in the U.S., 12 miles from my house.

If you want a frame made in the U.S., buy a frame that's made in the U.S. It's really that simple.

Honestly, my feeling is the only role for buying USA CF frames is if you want a "boutique" brand or (especially) if you want/need custom geometry.

If you are fine with stock geometry, you are almost always going to do better (and save money) with a frame from Taiwan.

I agree 100%, and so does my frame builder. He'll build just about anything you ask for, but I've heard him tell people that a custom geometry is unnecessary.

Some people simply want a frame that is unique, and produced locally.

Agree looks quite nice. With my wacky body proportions, I would LOVE a custom made-to-measure CF bike.

But not affordable at this point.

I would say $2500 for a frame/fork is reasonable. I expect the cost for custom geometry is $5K or close to it. The big names (Calfee, Seven, etc.) charge that.

I would not be getting a new bike for another 2-3 years anyway, but if price is reasonable I would consider.

Capitalism Econ 101, if you can outsource the work elsewhere , and cut costs and save money, and that keeps you profitable,

why not do so?

Well....a consumer economy relies on consumers who have an income and are employed such that they can afford your products...

good luck with that alternative universe, Karl Marx would be proud of your reading of his literary works of economic philosophy,

he suggests that . but that has not happened.. sweden, etc maybe..

US capital red baited labor, getting out the army..

Henry Ford, briefly, thought his workers should be able to afford to buy what they made.. But,

now its tax cuts for the well connected Rich and crushing labor unions and wages.. 70s got that started.. wages flatlined.

[women had to go to work , not be homemakers]

Later, Ford liked what the European Far Right was saying, in the mid 30s, setting up for WW2.
