So clean. Hey so, I have an 80's Trek elance 400 that used to be my dad's SF bike when he was in his 30's. It's been in a garage for like 20 years basically. I want to bring it back to life, and I really like the set up you have on the drivetrain here. Did you get a new crankset entirely (If so, what was that process like?) Or did you just removed the other front chainrings?
Dig your bike. Hope to get mine up and running soon!

but afaik he got it as a double, & gave me the 50t ring and double bolts with some other stuff
right now its 1x8 (42x13-26), 42 is just the smaller ring of the 50/42 double on these 600 cranks

Just remember that if you go single chainring, you might want to get a shorter bottom bracket if you want a perfectly straight chainline; otherwise run what ya brung. Good luck! Old Treks are awesome.

Another very cool bike 65er. Is that the same Ron Cooper you have posted in the past ? Did you have to spread the dropouts ?

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
The frame has just enough spring for the 130mm hub and is not hard to install... a minor cold set is in the bike's future.
It was pretty chilly today but went for a short ride to test the drivetrain; was nice to get on one of my bikes that idles at 30 kmh and it is a wonderful ride for those weekend metrics and centuries, the triple should help get these old bones up those longer hills and the 3 by 8 has a little more range than a compact double or the old 7 speed I was running so the descents should also be a little faster.
