No need to apologize, Ray Ban has as much C+V cred as anybody or anything here and while no longer made by B+L, they're quality is still very much as good as it ever was and doing it with timeless style.

New I believe, the headset is still in production and came from Alex Cycle as did the Suzue Hubs which are NOS. This is going on a Araya manufactured Tange 2 frame set from 1983 with some really nice details (total frame set weight 2,572 grams, not fly weight but it's a sportive), with all NJS Nitto stuff and a mixed bag of Dura-Ace 7703, 7803, 7900 drive-line and BR-9100 brake set.

These pronounced curved Campagnolo skewer levers came from a Chicago bike swap meet. I suppose one could've modified them but if so, certainly are nicely done. My poor photo skills probably don't capture the full perspective but both have exact curvature and no mar.

Next, I had a set of Gipiemme alloy skewers acquired NOS from Boulder Bike. Really nice for vintage weight weenie builds and bargain budget.

I'm close to finishing an early 80's euro pro team bike mostly Campy Super Record but with other interesting and not too common parts. With that in mind, I swapped the Campy curved levers to these ally Gipiemme skewers. I think they're pretty cool for that project.

You’re right. I just took a closer look at mine and the curve definitely doesn’t look as pronounced.

This has me wondering if the curve could be straightened out to make it look pre CPSP I have 1 set of straight ones from the early 70's but the chrome is roached. I have many sets of curved ones in good condition but I would hate to ruin a set for an experiment.

I stared at those very tires for the bike I just pictured with the Acorn bag, but I just couldn’t get with the color, and at full retail they cost more than I wanted to spend on an urban commuter. A pair of 35mm Paselas should arrive tomorrow. I’d love to see them on your Mercian when they’re mounted.

The green, my racing bike from the seventies, story posted elsewhere.
The red, bought on eBay, and arrived from England today. $190 including excellent Campy Record headset and 56.xx shipping. Suntour Cyclone build from 54 cm Nishiki International purchased as donor. (Will be sold as frame or rebuilt with Shimano 105 and 600, for sale).

I've got a very nice wheelset today, which I paid too much money for. I got a bit paranoid about the package which was "delivered" yesterday but the courier didn't leave any note saying the he'd dropped it at one of my neighbours. So I had no idea where it was. Luckily, the lady who had taken it was nice enough to come by and say that there was a package waiting for me.

Anyway, the wheelset looks very shiny and clean and I don't think it has seen any use at all. Looks NOS to me. I was planning to rebuild the hubs with clincher rims, well I actually got the wheelset because of the hubs. It's a bit odd that Maxi-car hubs are laced into tubular rims to begin with, isn't it?

I’m spoiled by the Rene Herse tires I have on the Pro. I’ve been on the supple bandwagon for a long time. The skinny Michelin Pros I’ve been using for years on the Mercian have very lightweight supple sidewalls, and the Sports has Panaracer Col de la Vies which are quite supple and have been super on that bike. I just couldn’t see buying extralight Herse tires for this build. I got these folding Paselas for under $30 each. The 28s are wire beads and I was never impressed. They were unremarkable. I hope these are going to be a better ride. When the replacement internals come from Sturmey-Archer next week, I’ll find out!

Drillium goodness. For now it's planned for the Nishiki Professional for Eroica California. I've got a Holdsworth Mistral in the rehab/project queue so it may end up there.
