Hey, what is the favored way to create slack in a FD cable for adjustment? Right now, I'm shifting to the large ring, jamming an object between the chain and the cage, and popping the lever. Seems somewhat inelegant and I often don't get the slack I need. I have a 4th hand tool, but it breaks cable strands. Any other techniques?

If it's for the low position set up. Here's what I do.
Shift to the small ring. And lowest gear in back. (biggest cog) Use the limit screw to adjust the derailure to make contact with the chain. (I know it's counterintuitive) loosen the fixing bolt.. pull the slack out of the cable. Tighten the fixing bolt. Now loosen the limit screw to take the slack out of the cable and move the derailuer off the chain. Now you have a zero position with no slack.

Except for the newest generation of Shimano FDs.

Whew, epic ride home! The forecast said 30% chance of rain, but before I left the office I looked at the radar and said, "wut" at the approaching hurricane.
Serious riding home and I just beat it. Well, it started raining the last mile, but I didn't get noticeably more wet than I already was from sweat.
Five more minutes and I would have been hammered.

My flights have been full for the last four months or so, and commuting to and from work I am almost always in the Jump Seat.

Since I could never get the play in the headset to go away, bike is in the shop at this very moment getting castrated. Figured kill two birds with one stone. Get rid of the massive stack and let the bike shop load the head set.

Oh something interesting happened today. Set off to do a straight no frills century. Left my house road 50 miles In one direction and then turned around. When I got back to my house I was only at 94 miles. Rode another 4 in my neighborhood but ended up just getting frustrated.

There was surprisingly little wind, which is good, because I expected headwind.
Even DougRNS can sniff out the cherry-picked data.
