Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That hip pain I've had the last few days, especially Sunday morning, was brutal. My upper leg was stiff like it had seized up. It was all I could manage to make it to the bathroom, take prednisone, and return to the bed and wait for it to kick in.

Most of the time my knees, even when swollen, don't hurt when I don't move them. But when the hip flairs up, it can be painful even when I'm sitting or lying down.

I found that heat helps a little. Heating pad good, but, body warmth created from warm clothing is better.
House temperature helps too, for me. I spent about a year in a chair, and a very long time on prednisone. Can't remember how long. Strong meds when worse, and less when not as bad, Your future could be better, sometimes it just gets better. The best position for me is in a soft recliner with my feet up and the knees bent. For me the change in temperature was often worse than cold.
I wear two pair of long underwear, even in the summer. Tomorrow I'm riding in the high 30s - low 40s. One pair of shorts, and five pair of tights.
Bailey decided that we should run across a parking lot maybe half an hour ago.. Now my hip hurts a little, it will go away. I knew it was coming. I don't care.

Several rides were around 25° But most were 35-45°. The batteries stayed in the car all of the time which was often in the teens overnight. I do remove them from the derailleurs after rides but they stay in the car.

I figure I have some loss from temperature.

What did you think of it? Seems like feedback is pretty good with the typical loud kvetching of a minority of unhappy users. The most consistent complaint that I've seen in battery life - did you run in to any notable issues there?

The first one I had crapped out on me during a rainy road race. I called PowerTap and they sent me a new one, no questions asked. That one has been faultless since. It is as easy as it gets to install and use. In terms of battery life, I think I go through two, maybe three at most, batteries per year. It takes two minutes to replace, so I don't really keep track.

The cold does not hurt them, it just reduces the runtime when the battery is cold. What I meant was, did they stop working on your last ride when it was in the low 20s? If they did it could have been the cold reducing your run time, and you will get longer run time in the warm weather.

Ah, yeah, I think that I'd seen some issues with water ingress - I would hope/think that the current units have addressed this. I guess that one of the reassuring things is their customer service. They've always been helpful and responsive, even though my old PT hub was gifted to me. That they're HQ'd one state over doesn't hurt, either.

I bought the first one on pre-order, so I guess some issues could have been expected. The one I got as a replacement has been through some downpours and still no issues. Their customer service seems great, so I wouldn't be worried about having a non-working product and being stuck with it.

Cool, thanks. I think that I'll give a call or IM or whatever when they open today to see if there are any known clearance issues with my frame and see if they'll take the unit back if it doesn't work out (all via LBS) - I've seen them make that offer to others online, so I'm optimistic. Assuming that everything is a-okay, I'll probably start shopping for an old crankset. For total power, the ability to swap wheels, and the low price, this just seems like the most sensible option for me.

Yeah, I had a heating pad on it. When it reaches a critical mass the only thing that's going to help is to get inflammation down. The hip is weird because you can't see its condition like the other joints. You just feel when it gets worse or better.

It's better this morning than the last couple days, and I took 5 mg doglet pills yesterday. Go figure.

If Actemera starts working I could return to "normal" in a short time. Google says it usually takes 2-12 weeks. I'm approaching 2 weeks.

No, it was 40° when they quit. This was the very first charge so run time may improve. If not, it’s no big deal to charge every 300 miles or so.

My wife and I went to mtb shoes because we walk around so much touring. I keep trying to go back to road shoes but it just doesn’t fit my style. OR shoes work better.
