WV is not flat..
I was hoping for the “missing nut” reply....actually he had a down tube shifter on many of his bikes. Some say weight, some say it was the ability to trim when climbing, but a lot of riders did it years ago.

All of Lance Armstrong's bikes had a friction shifter??
This is the solution I saw on Felice Gimondi's private Bianchi when he visited the Mercatone Uno team for a nice shared bike tour around 2000.

Doris Day rode her bicycles almost daily and even rode them on errands. After a while, the locals tended to stop noticing and it only became a problem if she rode in a tourist prone area.

Sorry if this picture of Sophia Loren has been posted before, but it's nice any time.

Actress Irina Dimik encounters a German checkpoint in the 1962 feature film The Longest Day.
Got a chuckle out how her hair style is so early '60's while the scene is supposed to take place in Normandy on June 6 of 1944.
Evidently someone making these decisions on the film crew felt the audience would not accept a 1944 hairstyle...
Can anyone ID her mount? Perhaps @MauriceMoss... That headlamp certainly does not appear to be in working order. Or perhaps it is wearing one of those wartime dimmer covers...

Geneviève Bujold. If you saw her in King of Hearts (1966), you probably fell in love with her. Or else you're dead inside. OK, I was a teenage boy when I saw that movie, so I fell in love about 5 times a day... Maybe that movie wouldn't hold up so well today, I don't know.
