You guys need to HTFU. You act like you're afraid to get an infraction or something.
This is the Road Cycling forum, dammit. Here's how you do it.
Mountain bikers suck!
Gravel bikers are stupid!
Cross bikers are confused.
All the rest don't even count!
It's road bikes or NOTHING!
Any questions?

It probably STILL hasn't been long enough since this was published for me to get away with holding this opinion, but... I don't think Roadie is all that great of a book. Didn't speak to me, anyway. And while my MTB racing teammate thinks I'm "too adventurous of a bike handler" to be a roadie, and many of the roadies I know would consider me more of a cyclocrosser, the fact remains I've been racing road bikes to one degree or another for nine years, now. And I don't own a mountain bike. So I probably qualify as a roadie.
Not sure you were around when he was posting a lot on BF, but seeing content in the book that comes from BF, and inside BF jokes was fun.
Also, it's not written at a level to give any new information to long time riders/racers, more to explain things to the uninitiated. So good book to give to your non riding significant other, or someone starting riding racing.

I am a very serious rider. I never laugh, smile, or even crack a grin while on the bike. Real roadies always grimace! ...And wave.

If most of your PRs are on the local MUP while weaving brush-by passes between pedestrians and city rental bikes, you might be a "roadie".
If you switched from club fit to race fit jerseys so irate walkers have less to grab onto when you brush-by pass them in pursuit of a KOM on the most congested part of the MUP, you might be a "roadie".
If you've pored over data to determine the most efficient tires, wheels, cadence and leg extension to perfect your technique and minimize losses due to the gaps between sidewalk slabs on the local MUP, you might be a "roadie".

nice twist.
If you've ever matched gloves to jersey to socks, you might be a roadie.

It has more to do with attitude than with what you ride IMO.
You may ride an hybrid wearing a T shirt, but if you are in a paceline and contest the sprint you are a roadie in my book.

Like the term Fred, the term Roadie is ambiguous at best. Move along.

If you pull up on your steering wheel to help your car over speed bumps, you might be a roadie. (guilty)

If you glance behind you in the supermarket before passing someone in the aisle, you might be a roadie

As of two days ago I count myself among those who use shoes with laces. Am I still a roadie? No tall socks, though. That would be a step too far.

My reply was, "I'd rather be good in one sport than mediocre in three."

If I am not a Roadie but identify as one, may I legally use the Roadies' restroom?

Roadies are the reason the roads became paved. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Roads_Movement
