I find that the best nicknames are the ones that are acquired organically; usually given by your riding buddies. If you have to explain to people why you call your bike something, it’s not a very good nickname.
I’ve had a couple of bikes that acquired nicknames over the years; my 93 Raleigh MTB sported a SCOTT AT-4 wraparound handlebar that I had applied neon orange leopard print bar tape (it was the 90s, and it was Rad!) That bike became known as “Chester Cheetah” or the “Cheeto Bike” by my riding crew![Not Amused](https://www.bikeforums.net/images/smilies/brood.gif)
The SoftRide earned the moniker “Gonzo’s Nose” during a weeklong event. I’d had to re-tape the bars the night before we set off, and blue was all I could get my hands on. SoftRides are already unusual looking bikes, and the bar tape gave it a passing resemblance to a certain blue-beaked Wierdo From Outer Space.
Most of the time, though, it’s just “the orange one” or “the white one “ since my current fleet of 5 are pretty distinct from each other. (Although of my Cannondales are black, one’s road and the other’s an MTB)

I overheard them talking. I think they have a nickname for me.

My FIRST ride on the Day 6 Semi Recumbent was begun shortly after MIDNIGHT under a star studded sky. After a couple hours of cruising around I decided to head home and fortuitously looked up to see a FIREBALL traversing the sky. When I got home I hit the computer and registered the sighting and waited. A few days later the SIGHTING was VARIFIED as a FIREBALL since other people in 4 states also reported it.
FIREBALL is now mainly used as my *GROCERY GRABBER*

I refer to my Specialized Sirrus 6.0 as "Sirius Black" since it is matte black. Haven't found a good name for my Diverge yet.

I'm normally a make, model and color guy but while not a human name it did seem appropriate to call this one "Big Bird". Besides it's easier to say than "the big old Yellow Schwinn Varsity".

I do give my bikes names. Candy, Shef, Titty, Granny (tbc).
They all have ladies names, because I dont ride blokes.
Simple. As. That.

Nope. I refer to them by their serial numbers. Helps that the builder retired with fewer than a thousand to his name. The brown Trek 510 3 speed is just called the townie or utility bike.

I don't, normally.
I usually refer to a bike as "The X", where X is the name of the manufacturer. If we have more than one, I might refer to the type of bike (eg mtn or touring).
I do have one exception. I assembled an off-road touring bike based on a frame made by Advocate called the "Seldom Seen", which is one of the characters in Edward Abbey's famous novel. The family derisively (and unfortunately, accurately) refers to it as the "Seldom Ridden."
In general, I tend not to anthropomorphize inanimate objects.
With pets, I name those who respond, and shy away from common human first names.

No, because the bike has a name on it the factory gave it and it probably does more good than most human beings so naming it after one would insult it, just as if there were a human actually better than a bicycle, then calling them a bicycle name would be an insult.

As a general rule I haven't done so. However, when I bought a new carbon bike a few years back and saw that the paint scheme was called 'Dark Knight' I decided that I would christen the bike the same. That bike has just been replaced with a Dolan which has a love dark blue and silver paint scheme. My 8-year old son decided it should be called Night Wing, so that's what it is. Not that I really refer to my bikes by name, it's mostly just for Strava. My mountain bike is Storm Cloud - I have a feeling I chose that name.

Bikes no.
Pick up trucks - yes.
My last truck was big and red, named it after Andy Ried - Big Red.
My current truck is even bigger and black - naturally its named Shaq. And like Shaq, it can't shoot free throws very well.
My wife didn't like me calling the truck Shaq and renamed it Shakira.
I asked why? Because the truck has a big wiggly rear end? Now I get to drive Shakira wherever, whenever - we get to be together.

C.E. is such a good album that followed Fire of Unknown Origin, both produced by Martin Birch.
I always wanted to see the "Black Blade" story made into a movie or series, with a very BÖC heavy soundtrack.
And how many hard rock bands go into a jazz interlude like on "Monsters"? They were fearless.
