We don’t have central air, just a window unit in the bedroom that keeps the whole house cool.
They built these places in the 80s with electric heat so most of the homes in this hood don’t have duct work. I’d get one of those mini-splits but they’re ugly AF.
We have a gas wall unit and fireplace that heat the whole house in the winter.

My mom is coming to visit this weekend. We have a somewhat strained relationship since I divorced my first wife because she has no respect for boundaries.

I haven't had air conditioning for at least 10 years. Hasn't been an issue except this year I am having trouble sleeping with the fan on. The noise Is bothersome.
The new fit on the '16 feels great, the seat was a bit off at first but I think It's dialed in now. New multi tool couldn't hack it though. Stripped the 5mm completely, rounded it right off.
windy af last night. Pulls were bouncing off 30 mph on the return leg. Was a blast!

Busy family day, today, and my travel coffee solution arrived yesterday, so I decided to take the day off from the bike, sleep in to a gloriously late 6:15am, and brew some coffee.
I ended up with a Clever Dripper instead of the Hario Switch; same concept, slightly different implementation (the Clever came several years before the Switch). First cups have been good, but I need to get my ratios down and I don't have a scale. Bah humbug.
Family activities today will be right up my son's alley: boat tour of the harbor, including close-ups of Navy ships, and an Air & Space museum visit.
Oh, and a donut shop visit for me

This will be our 6th Fourth of July at this house. In the past there have been fireworks for weeks before and after the holiday. An absurd amount of fireworks. This year has been mostly quiet. A few loud explosions, sure, but the nightly house rattling, car alarm triggering barrage has been absent. My neighbor mentioned this lack of "world war three" as he put it and the only thing we could think of is it must be money. People are not buying the rockets or not driving to wherever they have to go to get them.
For years the city has had a hot line and supposedly enforcement but it never mattered.
I suppose it's possible they are hoarding their munitions for a hellish weekend ahead. We shall see.

I had to close up the entire east side of the house, a few minutes ago, due to an idling diesel rig blessing us with it's effluvium. I finally walked out there to find a tractor/trailer rig with a police escort attempting to turn around. Our house is at the butt end of the street. My wife told me she sat behind a different effort, on a different day. I guess they just have to get as close as they can. Or perhaps they use it as a training exercise.

That's why I like to leave the window open just a little from April through November, so I can hear the frogs down in the creek. Little guys, so they're high pitched. I think it gradually changes over to mostly crickets over the months.

When Mrs. GJ and I got married, we moved to a flat in The Richmond in SF. We were just off a secondary East-West street, Balboa, and there was a 4-way stop at the corner, so all night it was buses and bikers starting up. 6 years later, with The Younger Boy about to be born, we moved to the suburbs where we lived in a quiet neighborhood.
The first night, we couldn't sleep. Too quiet.

My wife is like that. I prefer silence. Of course, this means I've had to learn to live with the fan noise.
