Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll take a dig at this. New Ultimate cages from Fairwheel. $60ea. 13.5g/ea. w/ bolts.

saddle is a Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Flow 131g. Bought from my LBS for $180.

I "tuned" my Elite post down to 146gms. And replaced my SI SL Flow saddle with an 164gm Toupe. Lost around 60gms in the seating dept. Toupe's more comfortable also.

Most of my weight weeny parts have arrived today. Especially my Soul S2.0SL.

The sad part, I can't seem to get my tires mounted....after two and a half hours..... And I even poped my tube... May someone enlighten me on how to mount my forte lunar light and hutchinson fusion 3 on my new wheels.....?

Alright, just attempted to mount my tires again, no luck. Just popped my second tube. I think it's my tires, they're made too tight or something..... I think I'm just going to try my luck with new tires tomorrow. Anyone know of a good store in NYC(preferably brooklyn) that would sell me tires that wouldn't need my arms and legs?

Some good news, I finally got tires mounted on my wheels. Bad news, have to spend an extra $110 on new Michelin Pro 3 Race.

Hey Ravenmore, think you can tell me what saddle you're using and where did you get it(a link to where you got it would be nice)?
Also, do you think you can give me a clear shot on the side of you brakes, where it's mounted, front and back if you don't mind?
Thanks.

Mind sharing how? I recently bought some Ti bolt set off Ebay for mine and I'll be cutting off all the excess seat tube off (I have a 350mm but really only ~230 to 250mm). I'll get before and after weights.

The cradle and top clamp are from an old PZ Racing post from my parts bin. They were lighter than the Thomson's. I reduced them further with help from my Dremel. The machining I did on the post is similar to what was covered in a recent thread on the Weight Weenies' forum. The Ti bolts came via Ebay.
Also, the post had been shortened considerably. That's how I got it for ~ $16 shipped on Ebay. A lot of work but enjoyable. Would like a Ti Pro, but not for $100.

I got the saddle off of ebay - there are a bunch of different sellers selling the same one. Do a search for 'carbon saddle' or 'carbon seat' on ebay and you'll find it pretty quick. You might also find some others you like better.

*edit - was just looking for carbon frames and found this: https://cgi.ebay.com/Full-Carbon-Seat...ht_1419wt_1135

Both of these should be lighter than the single alloy Specialized cage i've got on there now. And just as importantly, the colors match.

The new carbon rib cages from Specialized are pretty sweet and are no risk. Advertised weight is 23 grams each (no bolts), but I just picked up a pair and they both came in at 18 grams each (no bolts). Best cages I have ever used too...

At $11.42 each, shipped, there's not much risk involved. If there's any damage, it's easy enough to get a refund. Agree those carbon ribcages are sharp. Lost a bid on a pair of new red & black ones a while back. They went for $56. Was heartbroken.

Just a heads up on a good deal on the Cutter carbon bar: https://www.realcyclist.com/cutter-ca...2-001b2166becc

I really like mine. Very nice finish to it and nice attention to detail. Plenty stiff for me (and I'm built more like a linebacker than a cyclist) and mine in a 44cm was under 200 grams (192g if I recall right). I'm tempted to buy another at this price and just keep it around for my next inevitable build.

Also, I picked up some Bont A-1 shoes today. Claimed weight is 225 grams - not sure what size that was though. It was a Bonktown deal - I got them a size large based on others comments, so there's a chance they'll be going back.

Keep that cutter bar around for your next crash. A lot of people will change carbon bars after every crash, even if no visible damage.

Has anyone checked out the new Toupe Pro with carbon rails? Around 130 grams! $150

I'm thinking of it. It would drop 160 grams off my bike, and I need a new saddle anyway.

They were vaporware last time I checked. I've been waiting for them for like 3 years, so I finally just bought the SLR Kit Carbonio Flow instead. It feels very similar to my Toupe if you are a Toupe lover. The nose feels a bit better actually.

Yep, just don't take their weight claims too seriously. They are Italians, and Italians lie. I have last years which was supposed to be 125g, and it was 131g on my scale. I would be pissed if it wasn't a fantastic saddle.

How exactly are they vaporware? It seems like you can order them from Specialized's website. Also, does the Toupe Pro really weigh 130g?

It's cool, my past few days including today and next week would be exceptionally long because of Final week.
