Ive decided to shed some weight off one of my bikes by feeding it a diet of new parts. My plan is to get it to a modest 16lb or less. I started with a stock Fuji ACR 3.0. at around 19.5lb. Ive really just got started but I wanted to start this thread to keep track of progress and get opinions. Ive never been very weight weenie with any of my bikes so this is something new to me.
Ok so now the upgrades so far.
- Selle Italia SLR Fibra saddle at 135g (saving 140g off stock seat)
-Planet X CNC Ultralight Brakes at 205g (saving 175g from stock Tiagra brakes)
- Michelin Pro3 race tires at 196.5g & 199g (saving 225g total from cont ultra sport tires)
-Forte' Lunar Light tubes at 50g ea (savings of 54g from old tubes)
-Ritchey WCS Peloton Pedals at 240g (savings 180g from old Shimano pedals)
-Williams System 30 wheels at 1580g (saving 320g from Alex A Class ALX200 wheels) {edit for ordering different wheels**

So as you can see I started where it was going to matter most with wheels, tires, and tubes. I am waiting for the tires to come in but they should be here tomorrow and also for the Soul wheels since Sean is waiting to get boxes to ship the wheels in
saying i save 100g on both tubes and 100g on pedals ive saved 1295g (2.9lb) so far so i should be close to the 16lb mark. i need a new stem so that will be next as well as a seat post and probably bars. I also plan to change the group to a Force/Rival mix and should save some weight there. I will keep this tread updated with weights and parts as they come in and get weighed as I am just getting started.

I also might add im doing this on a budget so no sugestions for AX Lightness parts etc.
Ive spent close to a grand on parts already with plans for alot more and since this is more than I paid for the bike some might think that is crazy but i plan to move most of these parts over to a new frameset next year so i believe its justifiable.

Nice looking ride ,Fuji's tend not to be on many people's radar when buying a new bike.

All this weight weenie stuff is fine, as long as the spare tire on your mid section has been taken care of 1st.

yeah i knew that would come up i should have said something about that in the beginnig i weight 120lb so trust me i cant lose any weight. As far as Fuji goes they are totally under rated! I own two Fujis and both are great bikes and are a killer value for the money. I guess no one has seen a SST or SL1 but those are NICE bikes! I even like the old steel frame Fujis. My ACR rides and feels like a CAAD and actually they are very comperable if you ask me but you dont see as many ACRs as you do CAADs so thats one reason i chose this bike.

yeah i love those bottles! i wont use anything else now. i seen them for like 4 bucks on nashbar the other day just not the same color.

I recently did a similar thing, went from 8.9kg (19.6lb) to 7.3kg (16lb). Will hopefully get it down to 15lb once I swap out some of the 105 groupset.

Things I did that you haven't:
- Dura Ace cassette
- Dura Ace chain (KMC make an even lighter one too)
- Lighter stem
- Lighter seatpost
- Lighter carbon bars
- Lighter skewers (probably the cheapest upgrade of all the above listed- saved 100g with some Token titanium skewers)

The stem/seatpost/bars- many manufacturers that do light versions for a decent price, consider PRO (owned by Shimano) for light AND stiff, reasonably priced stuff. A lot of close-outs as they are updating the model range for 2011.

yeah i was looking at PRO bars. im thinking 3T ARX team stem but dont know about seat post yet. i will be getting a new KMC chain when i swap the group as well as cassette. i was thinking about KCMC skewers i thinkthey are like 43g. how much did the token skewers weigh?

i would also like to at some point switch alll bolts to Ti and tune the rear der. on the new group. nothing to crazy but if i could get close to 15lb i would be really happy. i think less than 16lb and i would be happy with it.

OP - Nicely done. I have the same brakes and I've been happy with them. They were a PITA to set-up though. I also have the same pedals and like them very much.

That bike is on sale right now at performance bike for $999, not including additional discounts they are offering which they usually do.

I got the bike for 750 out the door with a new pair of craft gloves to boot. I doubt u can get one that cheap but performance bike has them for 999 and u can probably get at least 10% off anyways. If I were you though I would get the ACR 2.0 with Rival/Force mix for a little more. I just got the 3.0 because of the deal I got and planed to upgrade the components on it and move the old ones to another bike

Yeah you are right about the brakes they were a little tricky to set up and I work on bikes for a living but they work great. The pedals match the brakes perfectly too. I e only used the pedals once but they seem nice as well.

I love the color scheme of the ACR 3.0 so much that I picked one up myself. It was a frankenbike off ebay, SRAM Rival and Force crank. Looking to upgrade the seatpost, handlebars, and stem at the moment. Nice looking bike you have!

yeah i liked the frame color too i think it looks alot better than the 2.0 or 1.0 and like i said i knew i would change everything anyways so....

My tires came in today! Mich. P3R one weighed 196.5g and the other 199g so thats good. i also had a chance to weigh my old Shimano pedals while at work and they came in at a hefty 416.5g!! so thats good too since it means i saved more with the new pedals than i thought i would (they came in at 40g under listed weight). i will update my first post with weights and savings and try to get a pick up with the new tires.
also thank you everyone for you complements. im still open to advice on what to change or parts to get.

Just the deal of the day at the local bike shop. I went in to order a new set of 105 shifters after one of mine bit the dust on my Lemond and he offered me the bike for 750 out the door. I said throw in a set of gloves and its a deal. So like i said thats why i got it and not something with the components i wanted and will use the old compontents off it to fix my Lemond. win win

I just got the PR3s mounted (a little hard to mount) and am anxious to try them out. I really wanted to get GP4000S tires but since i could get the PR3s so much cheaper i figured i would give them a try. Ill pick up a set of GP4ks when ever i see them on sale again.

So far not including the Sould Wheels im waiting on i have saved 815g (if old tubes weigh 100g/ea). After the wheels i should have saved 1385g (3.07lb) so not to bad so far. The hanging bike scale at work is broken so i cant weigh the whole bike right now

Has anyone ordered from Soul lately? How long did you have to wait? Ive been waiting 2 weeks for him to get the boxes to ship my wheels in. Im really getting anxious for them to ship!!

Ill update with pics of the tires when i get them loaded and/or get better shots . Ill also add a ride report of the wheels when i get a chance to try them out. It snowed here last night but i might be able to ride to work tomorrow if the roads clear up.

Athletics Unlimited. I doubt that they would give the same deal to someone else but they do have really good prices. The owner is friends with father inlaw so he gave me a really good deal. Its a very small shop and they sell all kinds of sports equipment but the owner is a very nice guy. Fuji is no longer making the ACR line so im sure that had something to do with it as well. I just got luck he had one and it was my size.
