I am currently working on a python based software engineering design tool for Siemens as a consulting job. Everything I thought would be easy is hard and everything I thought would be hard is easy.
Today I got feedback from my contact after he did a live demo of my code and everyone was wowed, but of course they wanted some changes.
When I heard what they were I thought "change 1" would be hard, but when I got down to it it took me all of 10 minutes. I didn't structure my logic in a way to accommodate this request, but I found just the right place to inject some new logic and make it happen seamlessly. "Change 1" was a super priority and they needed it ASAP. Serendipity.
I also thought "change 2" would be easy and it is, but it will require making lots of changes all over the code. I am sure that chasing down ever instance will take a lot of time. It will be easy, but time consuming.

So my Zwift machine died (MacBook Pro, 2011 era). I don't have the money to buy anything like that right now.
I have a (humongous) 64 bit desktop but no Zwift compatible OS (Windows XP Pro). I'm really not inclined to spend the money to buy Win7 or Win10 just for Zwift, as this machine will sit next to the trainer.
I was wondering if anyone tried porting Windows through Ubuntu to use Zwift, like with WINE.
Looking at my question I think I'll just get the Win7 license. So much more straight forward.

Good point. It's XP 64 bit compatible (currently what I have), also Win7 and Win 10 64 bit.

I spilled water on my MacBook Air last week. I followed the online forum protocol and turned it off, flipped it over, and let it dry for 96 hours before turning it on. It still worked, but not very well: Fan ran constantly at full speed, things took forever to process - even typing emails was a strange chore, and it would restart whenever the screen was closed.
I took it in to the Genius Bar last night. They said the processor is shot, and I'll need a new logic board since they are connected. I may also need a new hard drive. They sent it off to their central repair facility, where they will repair or replace whatever is needed. Said it would cost me $280 to fix it - it's a flat fee, so even if they replace everything, it's still only $280. And while $280 isn't cheap, it's a lot less than I expected and not as costly as a new computer.

That's not bad at all. How old was it? Was it under warranty?
My wife's Macbook Pro got some water spilled on it a number of months back. I told her to leave it off, flip it over, let it dry, all that. I probably only made her wait 48 hours though, I don't remember. It works well enough, except that I think some of the memory is a little shot. She gets random kernel panics when she's just surfing the web or shopping on Amazon or whatever.
If we could get it refurbed for $280, that's not bad.

Anyone have the experience of being vetted with a client, you sign off on a scope of work, do a crap-load of work that you deliver, and then find out that the company you have been working with now has a different way of dealing with consultants? First of all 5.5% of what you agreed to do for the job is now taken off as overhead. WTF? And then you comply with everything they ask and it takes so long to get vetted that you have in effect sent them most of the contracted work before you are "good to go" so if they wanted to play "hard ball" with a raft of lawyers you are now totally screwed because it all happened before you were under contract?
Good thing that they want to go forward with work that my contact thinks is impossible, but I know how to do it.

Check the serial number, it may be covered by the extended recall program:

Wow, awesome deex. My wife's is possibly affected too, early 2011 Macbook Pro. I think kernel panics count as unexpected restarts. I'll do a backup tomorrow and swing it by an apple store. Can't hurt.

My screen:
![](https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/12644833_10153942193993824_6000701841905539392_n.jpg?oh=72d96a8250f12f79d39458c72e49444e&oe=572CFF45)
It worked long enough to pull a screen shot of the serial number (About this Mac, More Info), and when I tried to open the "check your serial number" it locked. It just locks in that "shifted to the side a bit". Or it just locks. Or.. it's frustrating.

Good deal guys. I'm a n00b in this forum but not on others. I own a computer repair shop in south Florida and I am also an Apple specialist.
Just swing by either an Apple Store or an apple authorized center. You can also call it in and they'll send you a box for you to mail it in. If possible make sure you have a backup of your data if you care about it.
The serial number can also be found on the bottom case if it has not been scratched off.
You can also turn on the computer without the video driver loading by holding down the shift key right at startup. It will boot in safe mode.

I have learned a lot from this forum so far and I am happy to give a little bit back!
Good luck!

Update: went to Apple store, ran some diagnostic test, it failed after about 10 minutes. Laptop is being fixed now, no charge. I backed up data and I'm glad I did - the laptop will get checked, anything out of spec replaced (like hard drive, etc). Normally $310 (so is that the $280 but for my laptop?).
I'm both psyched and a bit bummed. I'll get another MacBook Pro at some point, right now I have no coin to do so.
I'm typing on an older MacBook, older OS, but the new iMovie doesn't see my ContourHD files so I am leaving this one alone for video editing. Doesn't run Zwift, nor Golden Cheetah, etc.

To quote off the page:
"The program covers affected MacBook Pro models until February 27, 2016 or three years from its original date of sale, whichever provides longer coverage for you."
Apple's CRM software flagged me as "not covered" but when I asked about the coverage based on what I read at the link above, the tech got a manager override and the work will be done gratis.

I used Carbon Copy Cloner (after booting into safe mode) and just did a disk image.
They told me that the machine will be checked over and any iffy parts replaced. If hard drive is ending useful life, for example, it'll be replaced.

Got my machine back. Dropped it off Thursday evening, got a call Saturday morning that it's done. The whole lower case (keyboard, touchpad, the part your hands rest on, and the bottom of the case) got replaced, as did the board that holds all the connections for the plugs (ethernet, USB, power, graphics, headphone, etc). The computer feels like new.

And I remember upgrading to an 80 meg hard drive and wondering if I'd ever get close to maxing it out.

Well I remember the IBM XT with a 10MB HD when I was using a TRS 80 with 8.5 floppy disks. I was so envious of the ads showing how it could hold whole file cabinets of information...We waited for the IBM AT. That was so exciting. FWIW - I still use the IBM clicky keyboard - 1989 - on my new Lenovo.
