The side that goes through the town? For me it's longer overall than 20min for sure. But, it looks to be about 20min for me from the start of the steady climbing until the small rollers start. I'd want to be done before those rollers.
The back side might be closer to 20min for me without the weird roller things.

If you went up the back side and started just past the Jungle turnoff then included the final STEEP kick to the top... that might be a good 20. The final kick up to the top would ensure you'd complete the test with nothing in the tank.

I'm desperately fearful of my next one. I know a new PR is possible for sure, but the cave for 20min (that's what I use) is just deep. And in the house versus the gym my fan is OK and best I can do, but sub-optimal for efforts like that. I always feel some people can do 10w more but just can't or don't want to dig that much for a number.
I almost would rather just use the Volcano KOM and work off of an 8-ish minute effort. I know myself enough to know how the % and curve works out. There's still a huge aerobic contribution at 8min and 20min. Or the Zwift ramp test. The Volcano KOM for me is shorter than 8min, but close enough. This is the short climb in Watopia.

My head exploded with all this talk about FTP testing on trainers.

I haven't done an outdoor FTP in 8 years.
Aside from that, I forgot that my Garmin calculates VO2 when you run a HR strap. Finished a ride two days ago and it claimed I have a VO2 max of 69. Not bad for a 36-year-old hobbyist.

I had my VO2 measured in an academic study about 10 years ago. I don't remember what it was, but the researcher commented that for the average 30 year old male, my VO2 was pretty good. For a cyclist, it was pretty mediocre.

There was a virtual TT today. The same course we use for our weeknight TT series (that I never go to) but have between 6am to 6pm to get it done. I sold my TT bike at the end of last season so I was in skin suit, aero helmet, laced shoes (Duct tape over laces) and road bike (Tarmac with ENVE aero road bar). I managed to do 24'17" (25.9mph for 10.6 miles). Been watching strava results all days.. I might end up 4th or 5th. Pretty stoked honestly. I beat a lot of people on TT bikes.
Here is what I don't get it. I feel like I'm in awful bike form. I did a power test this week with dismal results. And then I go out and keep up with some of the better tt people in the state.. on my road bike... I was only 30s off my best time for this segment. And I did that the weekend before Chico 2 years ago. Probably the best form I've ever been in. On my tt bike with full gear. Conditions similar iirc. I don't have a power meter on my road bike anymore so a bit hard to compare.

Sounds exactly like mine, except I was 40, so for the average 40 year old it was outstanding. For a cyclist, not even mediocre.

While I think (in general) cycling creates a really 1-dimensional athlete. To begin to be even remotely competitive in this sport (at any cat) you're already in the top single digit % of the general population. It's actually frustrating to me at times to go on hikes or whatever with friends because it either turns into them telling me to slow down or me getting bored..

Did some climbing VO2 and ANO2 work on Soledad. 5 minute 110%, 3 minute 120%, 90" 130% and 5' over under.

I had mine measured in 2009 at a university during a study as well. It was around 60-61. I lost another 10 pounds and increased my absolute vo2 a tiny bit and got it up to 66-67 in 2010. And yea, great numbers for a normal person, nowhere near top amateurs or pros. Genetics is a b*tch.

It is just hard to be at the pointy end of the stick at anything that is worthwhile.

Ski tour today with one of my buddies. Snow is wet and sloppy. Very warm. Our snow pack won't last long at this rate. We'll be mountain biking the high country soon enough.

Working hard to be at the pointy end of cycling is a lot easier than say, being at the pointy end of being a surgeon or to keep it in sports, being a swimmer. The only real hard thing about cycling is the dieting part....maybe training in the cold but even then you're outside. It used to be hard to train inside, but with Zwift and limitless on demand tv even that's enjoyable. Not as enjoyable as eating ice cream on the couch and watching tv but close enough...

Tried to ride yesterday and my legs didn't want to even hold SST watts. Flat, dead, would not respond. Ouch...
I also tested the power meter I've been using (older quarq) with my new Favero Assioma Duo's. Average power output for the last ride was within 2 watts of each other. Pretty incredible.

Rubber band workout in semi lockdown and then a nap. I purchased a few different strength bands that come with a door thingy to secure the band into the door jam. Okay. The workout is not bad and the bands get harder as they stretch that matches the strength capability of the muscles. Also, I can use an easier band and do more rapid movement which is not as easy to do with a free weight or weight machine. I may keep some of the band work exercises when our gym reopens.
It was rainy, cold and dreary plus we are supposed to stay inside. Sleeping is a great pastime.

Almost 200 TSS metric century this morning. Taking advantage of empty roads to ride places you normally can’t.
Solo metrics accumulate a lot more TSS.
About same power as normal, but HR zones were lower. Yesssss. Ate enough too for once.

Long run this morning. From the apartment, to the top of one of the local trails, down and home. 11.7 miles, 2400 feet of elevation. Not as much hiking as I have had to do in the past. I still suck at running on snow though. Give 2 weeks and it'll all be gone..
My idea of fun
