Picked up a nice marketplace find today. Haven't dated it yet, but somewhere in the 90-91 era Diamondback Interval TG. I was hoping for the 105 group, but I can settle for the 500EX group. really good shape, just needs a rebuild. Looks to have been set up by a bike shop and left alone.

Trek 8000

Free Craigslist ad 5 minutes from the house. I cleaned it up and put new tires on it-no adjustments needed, shifts, stops and rides great.
I was hoping it would be good for my youngest …but not for awhile
It seems like a nice LIGHT bike. If anyone has any insight on these I’d love to hear it. (The photo doesn’t do the red justice)

How were Cannondales filleted? Maybe I am using the wrong term. Maybe welds done in fillet style?

The cannondales were and are alwaysTIG welded and their welds were recharged and polished by framebuilders until they were very smooth looking . Aluminium can't be brazed.

$10 FB Markeplace find for today - a 1999 Trek 820 mountain bike. Used but not neglected, It was sold in Madison, Wi and some how made it's way to Columbus, Oh. Not sure on the size but I will be building it up as my around town/running errands bike with fenders, a rack, and some other goodies. I love the Dragonfly green color.

I LOVE the high-flange hubs. I have 3 pairs I think. One pair, 24h, that I'm going to use to build up a set of wheels for my old Cannondale Series 3.0

Picked up this Trek 800 Sport a month or so ago. Was planning to flip it but my daughter will probably grow into it before I get the repairs finished. BB is shot, needs tires and tubes, and drivetrain is worn.

Probably not the best use of $11. It's a Hard Rock Sport with Suntour XCM. From the corrosion, it looks like it lived in a boat. The seat is stuck and everything is rusted, but all the bearings are smooth. It looks like some one pumped up the tires and sprayed some lithium grease around, and rode it till the rusted chain broke..

I figure the 7 speeds Suntour freewheel is worth the price of admission, and the XCM bits will go in the box of midrange Suntour indexed shifty stuff.

Assuming the seatpost comes out, the frame is probably a good candidate for Phosphoric acid, Penetrol and wax.

The rusty spokes are a bummer. The hubs are worth saving. I ride a bike with the same rims, and have a bunch of them on orphan wheels, and on project bikes. I'm going to look for serviceable zinc spokes, to see if I can get the cost down low enough to rationalize rebuilding wheels like this.

P.S. It took me a minute to notice that the frame has horizontal drop outs, which is a major plus in Beaterville.

It's a Zebrakenko Golden Sports with nothing wrong with it! The tires even hold air!

I will clean it up, replace a few cables, and probably sell it. It's too big for me.

Donation to the pile. Getting that time of year when you can't leave things sitting out so I got right on it. Took off a lot of funky accessories but only needed a saddle otherwise.

I'm interested in what the frame is under that paint.
We were both happy at $8 for the pile.
I'm pretty sure that's an IRO Rob Roy. I recall there was a more affordable group buy version in a green color.

At the time, for whatever reason, I didn't get one, but it should be solid. I saw one locked up here-and-there in Albuquerque when I lived there, but never bumped into the owner.

I couldn't stomach letting all that go for less than $10!

Here's My latest catch. I'm going to go and pick it up tomorrow. Full Campagnolo bike including 6 tubulars, a pump, shoes, helmet, and an extra handlebar. You can say that I more or less just payed for the parts and got the bike for free.

Mr.Toolbox's Fuji reminded me that I never mentioned my Fuji. A year or so ago, I bought a Fuji The Finest from Portland CL, but I couldn't connect with the seller, so my son Chris picked it up and stashed it in his basement for me. I finally got the opportunity to mess around with it on my current PDX trip. Here's what it looked like when Chris confirmed that the stem and seatpost weren't stuck:

I sent out a couple "care packages" containing parts and tools I thought I'd need, then on this trip started working on it. I made significant progress, but had forgotten to send out a spoke wrench. The rear wheel seems pretty straight, but the front has a very pronounced wobble. I might yet track one down here in Portland, but I more-or-less decided to just ride Chris's bike while I'm here and ship the Fuji back home where I have a full suite of tools at my disposal. Here's what it currently looks like:

The box in the background is the shipping container for the return trip home.

The bike has some unusual (to me) bits. One, it has a Fujita Hupel Rider seatpost. Two, it has Ukai plastic-filled tubular rims. Poking around the net, I only saw a track variant, but the brake tracks on these are clearly wide enoug for road use. They are laced to Sunshine 5345 hubs with what appeared to be fairly light double-butted stainless steel spokes. I'll check the gauge when I get home.
