two:
'07 Trek 1500
'02 Trek 5200
One is the backup of the other, though I'm not sure which is which right now (currently the 1500 is in the shop for warranty repairs, so I'm on the 5200).

zero.
i live in manhattan and space is costly. i had a trek fx 7.2 (bought may 09) and i sold it 2 months later because i want to upgrade to something way more high end. so instead of having 2 bikes laying around, i got rid of the fx 7.2 to just get one killer bike.
as of now, i am leaning towards the trek fx 7.7.... perfect blend of speed with the upright positioning that you need in manhattan.
i have seen road bikes ridden in manhattan but the people look so uncomfortable on it plus it's dangerous not to be looking around at traffic always....
so yeah. i'm getting one in a month or so.

Nice, a resurrected thread. Now I have a reason to post this photo "collage" of the bikes that I ride regularly:
Plus my museum piece that I don't ride:
Less the two other bikes in my garage that I no longer ride and less the bikes that belong to my wife and kids.

In order of year of acquisition:
Follis - French Road Bike - 1962
Specialized Roubaix Expert - 2008
Specialized Langster (basic) - 2009
Specialized Mt. Bike Tandem - 2009 (used, probably dates to 2000)

I started out several years ago with a Trek Multitrack 7100. Perfect bike to get me back into cycling. I think I paid about $150 for it, used. It has done very well by me and I'm still riding it today. Along the way, I've accumulated:
Trek ZX6000 MTB - a friend gave this to me because he didn't use it. The frame is slightly too big for me, but not so much that I haven't been able to manage. I put on a more upright stem and a different set of handlebars to get the bars back and further up. Been enjoying some rides with it - mountain biking is so much different than road riding.
Schwinn Mirada MTB - a Freecyle freebie. It was laying behind a garage with the wheels off of it, covered in pine needles. Rusty but trusty, I mounted some slick tires on it and use it as my winter beater for street riding at lunchtime once they begin putting salt on the roads. It's essentially a disposable and sacrificial bike, I maintain it enough to keep it rideable in the winter months. It takes the place of my 7100 in the winter. Better than riding on a trainer or stationary bike.
1989 Cannondale SR300 - another bike given to me, it's a 60cm frame and way too big - but, it showed me how delightfully light and responsive a road bike could be. I started putting some flat bars on it to make it more comfortable for me to ride, but haven't completed the project. I should probably pass it on to someone taller than me that can use it.
2010 Cannondale Synapse 5 alloy - I don't actually have this one yet, still waiting for it to come in. I won a Cannondale hybrid bike in a drawing but the bike shop allowed me to use the value of that bike towards a more expensive road bike, and I picked the Synapse. I can't wait for it to come in. It will replace my 7100 and I'll probably pass that on to my wife.

After getting back from World Championships, I had 2 bikes. I fed my family and made a living on bicycles. My job was to race bikes, my whole life was about bicycles, and the most I ever had at any time was 2, and even then they belonged to the Team that took them back at the end of the year. Before I turned pro, I had one bike. That bike was used to race, train, time trial, hill climb, get groceries for my mom, go meet my date, go watch a movie, cruise and visit freind, transportation TO THE RACE.
I most probably have ridden more miles than most people here will ever do in their lives twice over. Even when I had a cold, I most probably did longer rides than most people here have ever done period. My race bike most probably commuted me 10 times the number of miles these so called "commuter" bikes people have. The same bike that was winning me National Championship races was the same bike I went to fetch bread, eggs and milk on.
I dont see how I could win National races on the same bike I ride to the store with and why any of you cant do the same.
Coming from South Africa, and seeing that the average number of bikes owned per person here seems to be five, I can see why the USA accounts for only 4 percent of the world's population, yet Americans consume 26 percent of the world's energy.
Consumerism will catch up.
