I’ll buy a jersey if I like the color/pattern and it fits well. That’s about it.

I have a jersey that was given to me by a member here. It isn’t a pro or team jersey but it has a cool skull on the front. I am 65 and plump. I really don’t care what others think.

I wasn't yet an old guy when this thread was started, and I never have worn a team jersey, yet I have always looked super stupid.

This may be part of why I’m a solo rider. Not only am I slow, I’m goofy looking. Who wants to be seen with a goofy old man?

I’ve not been able to put a finger on when I became an old guy. I just seem to have noticed it happening in the last few years.

I am beginning to think that us old guys need our own team jerseys. Like a scuba group I want to start- the Bobs, Buoyant Old Bast***s.

The cartoon character is O'Grady himself. He's a funny writer, especially his self-depricating stuff.

I had a guy sneer at me on a local lake trail. I thought it was funny because he was obviously unhappy but I was enjoying my ride.

I retired from amateur racing last year at the age of 70. I still wear the team jersey on occasion.
I've been a member of a small local bike club for over 25 years. I wear the club jersey on most of my rides.

Grey hair, impotence, joint replacements, cardiac stents, insomnia, indigestion, watching right-wing TV news, urinary drainage bags, advocating for recumbents, forgetting what I was saying mid-rant.

I am riding to help lose weight and get back in shape at 65. I wear bibs and a jersey for comfort not for how I look.
My biggest problem is not knowing how to really train, how hard to push.

But man do you go overboard. “They” might get you for watching right wing news (which is now called misinformation and propaganda). 🤪

"You got this! Keep it up! Looking strong!" Etc,etc. Suddenly he yells, "Keep it up old man, you got this!"
I look around at the pack to spot the old man. The rest of the pack is 20-30 somethings! Reality set in that day.
As for looking stupid in bike jerseys, I'm 5'8". Because of a bigger upper body, I have to wear XL size. The elastic bottom hits just under my butt cheeks. It looks like I'm wearing a tunic.

Talking cheap jerseys, though. Expensive "aero" jerseys would probably fit right, but then I think, the 72-year-old me buying aero jerseys meant for 20-year-olds?---how pathetic is that?

The other items are possibilities. But I live in Oklahoma where if a jacked up 4x4 truck isn't trying to roll coal on you, the driver is distracted by grabbing a beer out of the cooler or something else. Recumbents sit too close to the ground to be seen without one of those big orange pendants. I will have no problem going e-bike when the time comes though.

1. If an old rider is reasonably fit, and feels comfortable in a pro team jersey; not stupid at all.
2. If an old rider is not fit and is concerned about what other people think about their appearance - a good compromise is a charity ride jersey. Pretty hard to be judge-y about someone wearing a "ride to cure leukemia" or similar jersey.
