it's a topical cream. if you are using it in the legit way (small amount, for a few days) there's no issue. the worry is what the guys at pro level were doing--blaming the similar drugs used in a different way on a saddle sore.

but, it's always wise to familiarize yourself with the prohibited substance list.

A couple years ago, I was on vacation in the Caribbean and got a massive blister on my foot. I could hardly walk. I didn't have a pin/needle or a lighter available. I ended up using a small seashell I found to pop it - it was so big that the puss shot about two feet across the hotel balcony.

Probably not the most hygenic way to do it, but it worked.

I know. But like you say, better to be sure. I've been thinking about it lately. I don't take any medications or supplements regularly so, there is no real concern, but got forbid I get tested (because they are now interested in testing pack fodder) and something pops... that could have real career ramifications.

my primary concern is to remove the lump in the skin. I'd much rather have a clean 1mm stab wound to let heal than a 3-4-5mm abrasion that can take MONTHS to heal from riding with a lump there.

Anyway, my teammate is a doctor and I asked his advice before I really tackled it. He advised I go to a doctor out of principle, but that what I was going to do was basically how they would handle it, though with legit equipment and more co-pays.

Most times they go away on their own, but if I get anything bigger than about a pea going, I get the tools.

*edit: also, I bet we agree on about 98% of everything and only get caught up on the 2% where I think you're opinion is not wrong, but I have a slightly different one. Anyway, good to see I'm off ignore!

One other home remedy: Preparation H. It will dry it up and cause it to shrink pretty quickly.

Doc says minor abscess, not ripe enough to cut. Prescribed antibiotics and said that if it gets worse I should visit the surgeons across the hall and they would cut and drain, etc. His first words to me upon looking... "So, if I told you to stop riding for a while, you'd stop listening to me all together, right?" "Right."

I've started with the preparation h too. I figured it can't hurt.

This thing freaking hurts. I can't walk right. I can't see how anyone could function with something more than a "minor" abscess.

Tea tree oil works miracles as well. But it probably depends on how big the sore is. Mine usually don't get too huge. I've only ever had one that got so inflamed I was able to pop it, and that wasn't a great solution because it was at least as tender while it healed. I think lancing is really a last resort, surface treatment is probably a better solution unless it really doesn't respond. WR lancing 4-5 a year, that's pretty crazy.

I have a buddy who had a really bad abscess. He was scheduled for surgery, but it got so bad before then, his girlfriend had to take him to the ER and they did an emergency surgery to remove it. He then had to carry an inflatable tube or pillow to sit on for two weeks.

Funny thing, I didn't notice anything until yesterday morning. I would have thought this would have been the final step on a progression of discomfort. Nope. It started hurting at hour 1 into 1.5 hours on the trainer and here I am.

I'm wondering about other people's experiences with conf calls. The group of folks involved in my organization are so wildly inefficient and meandering that we need to regularly have longer and more frequent meetings than are reasonably necessary. I imagine it's specific to the this (or a) group of people, but is it? 'it depends.' shrug. I'm 30 minutes into a 90 minute call and not a damn thing has happened aside from hellos and talking about the agenda.

Surely you've heard of tea tree oil? It's an essential oil, not from tea leaves. Smells strongly of camphor. Used for purported medicinal properties since ancient times. It does seem to have some mild antimicrobial properties and dries things out, so using it topically has some basis in fact. It's no steroid ointment, though.

Sounds about typical to me. I avoid them like the plague. In fact I avoid all meetings as much as possible. The vast majority are unproductive. If I get roped into one I insist on an agenda and make sure (to the best of my ability) the meeting stays on topic.
