Can You Bunnyhop?

I meant more of doing the deed just to do it. I'm lucky enough to have fairly nice roads around me. Like I said though, I do some hoping when I come across bumps or such, mainly because I do think it's safer and smoother (fun as well).

I can. Even my training wheels leave the ground. All four in the air.

I can road bunny hop(lift both wheels simultaneously) and cyclocross bunny hop small obstacles but not full on barriers yet, especially if they are in quick succession

I can hop potholes, speed bumps, and up curbs, but only when clipped in (both wheels at same time). Just got a cross bike, so I'm going to have to learn how to do a proper bunny hop.

Not really. The difference in bunny hopping 2" inches and 2' is a change in technique. Those with a bmx background will do more of a wheelie hop - shift back, lift the front very high, shift forward and up to bring the back up to the level of the front. Ironically, bunny hopping 2' is easier on flats then clipped in. Bunny hopping level - up 2" or so - is a different technique. That technique is quicker and much more suited to road riding, e.g. clearing a pot hole, etc.

He didn't really bunny hop Cancellara, as much as he rode over his bike.

There's a set of big-assed speed bumps- at least 6" high, that I bunny hop when I go that way,
so that puts me up there with Sagan?
What an honor!

Of course. There's potholes and stuff. But I have expensive wheels and pedals, so I don't do it very often.

For sure.
I just mean I try to go around (stuff catches you off guard though) if I can, and I don't hop just for the fun of it.
I'm also heavy by road standards; I'm above the weight limit on my pedals.

I only do it for fun on my SS/commuter bike. It's got Stans Alpha 340 hoops, but they are by far the least expensive wheels I own. I practice stuff on the cheap stuff, just to keep the skill if needed.

I have no problem hopping debris or potholes out of necessity, but I just can't bring myself to hop curbs for ****s and giggles. It's just this mental thing, like an opposing coach trying to ice the kicker... except I'm the coach and the kicker, and I'm giving myself too much time to think about how I'll mess it up and eat curb.
Once in a while I find myself eyeing a curb and thinking that I could hop up that, but then I envision the front wheen making it and the back wheel hitting the curb and immediately going down sideways and eating the curb edge like that scene from American History X and I shudder and think better of trying the jump...

And yeah, bunnyhopping for the hell of it is fun. My favorite is the railroad crossing - approaching the crossing like a tabletop jump on a BMX track... use the front side as a take off ramp, clear the tracks and land on the downside. So much *$#&ing fun to do that at speed and have the whole thing butter smooth - like you never left the ground. But watch for trains... that'll mess up the butter smooth part.

Yea, but my bunnyhoping skills seem to be inversely correlated with my age. I use to be able to get after it...now if I clear a curb I'm happy. Oh well..that's all I need for my riding anyway
