I generally have my packages shipped to her office address, so there's no getting around those.

Most of my life, one bike met my needs. I always had a work space and tools for wood working and car repair. But, by late middle age my work hours reduced enough to allow the luxury of multiple bicycles, i.e. a collection.. I think it requires a mature relationship to work. Here's my insight:
Male/Female relationships are complex. Some couples have much in common, others little. My wife and I are extreme opposites, but it worked these 58 years because both of us are disciplined and frugal. It took time to know each other and discover our strengths and weaknesses along with what we mutually enjoy. Opposites attract because together we make a whole. Over time, we came to enjoy the things we have in common and appreciate the differences that attracted us so strongly to each other. I know one thing, she is truly "my better half". Don

The woman who became my wife in 1998 and I met literally in the middle of the ‘93 Seattle-to-Portland (STP) 200-mile ride, just before the Centralia half-way stop. Then we got better acquainted as cycling friends over the next few years, culminating in training for, and eventually doing together the one day version of the STP in 1996. We started dating after the cycling season that year, when she was also in the process of ordering a rare-for-her luxury, a custom Erickson bike. Our honeymoon was three weeks bike touring SE France, and we plan to do another self-guided tour in SW France next year.
The Erickson was replaced a few years ago with a custom Independent Fabrication, which I insisted needed the best possible paint scheme to suit her tastes. A few years before that, her birthday present to me was permission to purchase a different frame (the 1987 Marinoni being the result) even though I already had two bikes in our garage-less home. She now also has a backup/fender/ride to the “Y” bike, and I sold one of mine of my own volition, finding that I am extremely happy having just two versatile sports tourers, one fendered/travel bike (Miyata) and the other easy to load in the car (Marinoni).
A long-winded explanation that she is also an avid road cyclist who certainly understands how good and important bicycles can be.
Our agreement is that if a new bike comes in, one eventually has to leave. But she has been fine with the extensive Gugificazione mods to the Miyata, and my occasionally getting different parts for either of mine. She evens listens politely when I talk about fantasy bikes, but that isn’t likely unless one of the existing pair becomes unusable.

Not at all, we grew up together and our families are close friends. But I'm from a generation that married young and when I married two years out of H.S., I was the last of all my buddies to take the step. I had been working at a good job for 2 years but we were still immature kids. One way we got off to a good start was taking her dad's advice to set some goals and work out a budget together. Having kids early and raising them sure polished off our rough edges though. I hope we agree that we're much different people at 40 than 20. Don

A slightly hokey c-w song from a few years back:
Be a best friend. Tell the truth.
Overuse "I love you."
Go to work. Do your best.
Don't outsmart your common sense.
Always treat your woman like a lady.
Never get too old to call her "Baby".
Don't let your praying knees get lazy,
And love like crazy.

One trick that works in specific situations:
"Two? What do you mean, two?... No, there's really just one...."

^^^^^^ Only works if you have the cranks in the same position (and the water bottles match).

A big box full of Peugeot arrived this week. OH said nothing at all. The conversation went along the lines of
"Do you not want to know what's in it?"
"In what?"
"The big box in the hallway."
"I assumed it was a bike."
"It's a very nice French bike."
"As long as it makes you happy."

Honey, you choose...
I believe it is always best to be totally honest with 4 people... Yourself, your significant other, your lawyer, and your doctor.
So, when I am in a dilemma similar to yours, I generally approach it like this... Honey, I know it is important to you that I limit myself to just two bikes, and I already have three and I'm looking to add a forth bike to the mix, so I am willing to give you a choice. I can either keep the 3 bikes I have and add this_____ 4th bike, or I am will to settle for just these two bikes-
And it's just $14,500 MSRP!
And the 2nd bike, The more modestly priced ICE Sprint X 26-FS recumbent trike with Shimano Steps electric assist at $ 9,815
So, Honey, Do I buy and keep these two bikes, or the three I currently own plus the new 4th bike I mentioned earlier- You decide.
