On more than one occasion I bagged groceries at local stores for tips, when they used to let you do things like that. I get encouraged when I see kids legitimately trying to earn some scratch doing stuff like that, like when I go to a big-box grocery store and there are kids outside offering to help you load your car. You don't see that as much anymore. One thing I have noticed living in the same house for over 16 years is that you don't see nearly as many kids offering to shovel sidewalks after a snow storm.

I'm doing just fine.
Was just there for Moderna III. No food reward required (I'm not 10).
One of the pharmacists was kind of cute, but sadly she's not the one who came out to the booth to give me the shot.
Outside they have mountain bikes for $199. Maybe I should buy one and hit the gravels?

For the last year or so, it's bugged me that I haven't been able to find the 3lb box of Morton's Kosher salt at any of the grocery stores that I frequent - they only carry those dinky canisters, at best. After searching online, I saw that Walmart was the only place around that actually carried the boxes, so I decided to go there the next time I was low. Today was the day. Since I was going there, I decided to cash in the old coffee can of coins on my desk, too, as it was almost full and, after being acquired, my bank no long counts coins - Walmart is just about the only game in town, as far as that's concerned, too (I found that out a few months ago with my son - he wanted to cash in his coins to feed his Lego habit and it took the better part of a morning to track down a coin machine).
I didn't see any remotely cute cashiers, but I went through the self-checkout as I only had the salt, a can of tomato paste and an onion.

Interesting. I've never had problems finding a box at any of my local grocery stores. Just bought one last week, in fact.

If the reward was ice cream you were foolish to pass it up.

I always buy at least 3 onions at a time, but my specialty is stews and other braised meat dishes, and for almost all of them the second thing that goes in the skillet (after browning the meat in batches) is at least one onion.

Lunch store visit report:
I had a female bagger at the Whole foods today.
Cashier 7
Bagger 8.5
I haven't gotten any tips yet today, might have to scale back on the $8 juice purchases for a week or so.

LesterOfPuppets I found a refurbishing project for you. Actually, though I ride by it frequently and never seen it move, it was humming when I walked up to it. I found a worker who said the starter motor was plugged in to keep it warm. I found out that it’s in use this time of year to move hopper cars around to be loaded with grain by a grain elevator. Despite looking like crap, the worker said it starts up and runs great and they’ll be operating it tomorrow.
