Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I don't know what your personal physique or strength is, but for ME, a 20 pound bike is pretty darn light; it is not the least bit, "heavy," for me. If it's not light for you, then I blame my, "supernatural," (sarcasm) strength from weight lifting.

See my reply to your thread on this subject. Anyways, I rock a 49cm Soma Rush with 700c wheels and my inseam is only 1/2 inch longer than yours. I've got plenty of seatpost showing and plenty of room to lower my bars if I wish. You don't need to stand over your bike when you stop. Just step down on one side and keep the other foot on the pedal with the bike tipped to the side with your foot on the ground.

You do have to commend the excellent use of the search feature to dig one up from that old...

Also, it got me thinking about how much of a bike's weight is in the components, rather than frame, since my 56cm bike is also about 20 pounds. You'd think, since the frame was smaller, it'd be notably lighter.

My wife's SE is 47cm.. She is 5'2". (why would she need 43 and 650..do not know - her road bike is 49).
47 SE is just slightly lighter than 55 Kilo... how much ~10 cm piece of thin steel tube would wieght.. 1 kilo?
