I like the VC and started watching Phil Gaimon vids after his visit to the channel. Love Phil's sense of humor, which isn't as apparent on his VC stints.

I absolutely agree. However, the Wiggle Wheel of Fortune is a corny ad.
I also agree that Tom Last was the least entertaining personality. Is he even still an active presenter?
For good American cycling channels, check out the Vegan Cyclist. Don't let the title fool you, he is not preachy about being vegan, it is just his thing.

I still like their stuff and it always seem fresh to me but I only watch a bit of it about only once a fortnight. Can only handle so much british I think is why.

Are there any channels like this for more hardcore recreational riders vs. the racing crowd?

For me, lately, it's meant Gigantic Commercial Network. Ads before and/or during the episodes, pimping their wares during the show (hey check out our new shirts, you can buy [insert item here] at our store, and we're wearing out new shirt available in our store, be sure to visit our store, click/tap to shop! .....), and now the Wiggle of Fortune.
I still watch it but too commercialized. I wish they could drop it back a couple notches. Getting rid of Wiggle of Fortune would be a good start.

Not sure the need for so many varied videos on one subject, like all the videos just on the cobbles? GCN rides the..., tire pressures for the...., how to ride the..., fastest tire width for..., plus all the actual direct race related videos for the cobble classics. I guess that makes sense when you're trying for thousands of video watches for generating revenue, but wow.
And the one day classics give fans something else to root for and associate with. A grueling multi day tour stretching into thousands of miles is beyond the ken of all but a few hardcore amateurs. But many folks can relate to cyclists who excel at single day events, especially on bad roads in terrible conditions. It's the sort of thing that might appeal to mountain bikers who want to try some road racing.

GCN is a commercial enterprise, and without sponsors and plugs for GCN merch it wouldn't exist at all. Do you take offense when a commercial interrupts your favorite show on NBC, CBS etc.?

The business model of a YouTube channel pretty much demands this level of product placement and plugs in order to give us high quality content. The content is really good and I think they do a really good job of being unbaised. It's a great channel and I hope it doesn't go away.

It's not a charity, and none of us are sending subscription payments, so

Yeah, and if you guys think about it, there was supposed to be GCN Club that is subscription based but from the looks of it, it seems they axed it out. And probably for the better as I wonder how they'll differentiate between subscribed and free content. Oh hey, if you like to see more of our ride, subscribe to the GCN Club (which requires a monthly subscription)!

Global Cycling Network.
I'm finding they're repeating videos they've done before more recently, ie:
- How to ride 100 miles
- How to clean your bike
- How to ride in the winter
These are all recent videos they've done before. I guess you can only talk about so many things before you run out of ideas.

Its not easy coming up with new content and material, for a specialized topic like cycling, particularly when you have a regularly scheduled show. However, I'm sure they'll take requests and dedications. Still, I'd rather see something new once a month than to see the same thing every week.

The Wiggle of Fortune was inside you all the time.

Kit doesn't match
Don't know if it's systemic or just coincidence, but the women's pro team that Wiggle co-sponsors will fold at the end of the season.

Now with Matt moved on to a proper job, Emma is quickly becoming one of my favorites. She's so small and fast. Watching her try to do her lines while riding a Buffalo Bike up an alp was just tremendous. And if they hadn't messed up on the staggering in the latest presenter challenge, she was easily 2nd overall, just behind the Spaniard who's still riding professionally. She's gotten better as a presenter very quickly-- it took Lasty a while, and he won me over with that pain face.
Pooley also won the 2018 Brompton World Championships in London, the day before riding the aforementioned Buffalo Bike in the Prudential Ride London century.

I must say, I really like Ollie Bridgewood (spelling?), especially when paired with Simon. I miss Matt, but the new presenters are fine. Chris has a lot of work to do on delivering his lines without sounding like a robot, but I'm sure he'll improve just like Emma has.
For people who think it's getting too commercial, I don't really care if they throw some plugs for various sponsors so long as they can afford to do more videos like this-
One of their best ever, tbh. Absolutely beautiful videography and a really cool adventure.
