Where do you keep your helmet?

I ride my bike to school everyday, and although it isn't a very long commute, or a very dangerous one, my interest in getting a helmet has increased. The only problem is, my school bag is already full, and I'm not so sure how safe it is to keep a helmet locked to your bike all day. So my question is, where do all of you veteran bicyclists keep your helmets after you arrive to your destination?

I attach mine with the strap through the loop on the top of my backpack. What kind of school bag do you use?

Here's my bag:

It doesn't bother you to have a helmet flopping around on your bag all day?

No one is going to steal your helmet if you lock it to your bike. Just make sure you put it on the side of the bike that isn't going to get it sandwiched between another bike.

If not, I just carry it with me, or leave it in the lab office.

Nope. I'm either sitting or walking.

I no longer use a helmet for utilitarian bike rides, but when I did I just left it with the bike and put a lock through one of the straps. Figured that thieves are after something with resale value and that not many people would be interested in buying my old, sweat-encrusted, helmet - especially after the thief cut through the straps to take it.

Yep I do the same with my Jansport book bag....I take out the valuables and lock the bag to the bike...I have never had a problem with this method.

I just hang mine on my handlebar. If anyone tries to steal it, the odor based defense system should stop them.
But then again, I don't lock my bike either. Pretty low crime around here.

either hooked to a strap on my bag or on the bike. if left on the bike and you're concerned you can always throw a lock through one of the straps.

I stick one of my u-lock's arms through a vent. Can't get it without busting the lock.

Hie thee to a hardware store, and get a short length of vinyl-coated steel cable, and have them crimp loops at either end. (Small mom'n'pop hardware store will do this for you, and help you select the right length and thickness. Wall-Mart/Home Depot/Lowes probably won't be much help.) Feed it through the vent, and slide the loops onto your u-lock shackle.

Leaving it out in the sun all day isn't going to do it any good

Just lock it with your bike. If you have a cable lock, run the lock through the helmet's chinstrap. It's not high security, but it will do.

Sounds like a couple of ways you can go about it. First you can lock it to the bike through one of the straps or vents. Second you can wear it. Third you can strap it to your backpack somehow and have it dangle. (all suggestions from other posters) Fourth you don't have to bring it.

I keep mine at home on a shelf, where I won't lose it.

I live mine on the bike. Sometimes I lock it, usually I forget before I've closed the lock, and just clip the helmet over the lock. Can't really see why someone would steal a second hand, sweaty, dirty, scratched helmet that didn't cost much to begin with.

I clip it to the straps on my backpack. I'm not worried so much of somebody cutting the straps to take the helmet if I slide it on the lock. I'm more worried of a dog peeing on it. That happened to a man's helmet left hooked on his lock near my bike a few summers ago. The look on his face when he was trying to figure out how it got wet and then identifing the smell me convinced to carry around my helmet.

I use a shoulder strap on my pannier; I run it through the "V" shaped helmet straps that normally go around my ears. It usually doesn't flop around too much. Otherwise I leave it in my locker at school.

I just attach the straps to the top tube of the bike. If someone really wants a beat up bell, they can take it...

Sweat encrusted helmets are the most comfortable. Ebay has a brisk market for used, sweaty helmets. Wearing another guy's old, sweaty helmet is better than you probably think. It's actually pretty hot.
