Here's where I am right now with this bag support:

Took me around 3 hours to bend it as each bend was done only once and I tried my best to make them even and to avoid marring the bar. I only used a small vice and my bare hands to make the bends:

Looking to tie the inner bends together, either with a bracket or with rope, haven't decided yet.
I left the inner bends uncut at the back as I will make a stop that will connect to the brake caliper mounting bolt so it will have some support for when the bag is heavy loaded.
Yes the bends are not perfect but it will do for my first try, it'll also be covered by a bag most of the time, so I'm not loosing sleep over it.

Got some clear hose for it as well:

This is the bike it's going on:

This thread helped me with a support for a bar bag I added to my lightweight from parts Franklin tour bike. I did not go the bottom support route. Not enough rod and afraid I’d have trouble pushing the plastic tube on. The latter was tough even with the silicone grease. Turned out solid but I should have made the stem loop part shorter

Now need a front rack for the Soma fork.

Zombie thread alert! But this thread has collected nothing but good ideas over the last decade, and it has the wheels turning (in my mind, not on my bike).

Does anyone have tips on making clean bends without a vise?

A pipe bender should do the trick.
