And it is beautiful: black with gold script lettering, a little shop wear and some cracking on the decals, but otherwise glossy and clean and unchipped. It didn't have a fork but the seller shipped it with what looks like a NOS Peugeot fork, also black and a good match (and sorry, Peugeot folks, but I had to take the decals off so it wouldn't clash).

I had a little dream of building this up with either a Nexus or a new Sturmey-Archer hub, but I don't think it's possible in any cost-effective way, so it is going to be a single speed for now. But sadly, it is just too pretty to use the crappy old parts we have in the basement, so it's going to be expensive either way. I will post photos when I can get it out into the light.
Ah, you are the lucky person who beat me for that beauty! We'll be eagerly awaiting pictures .

Oh, no, I'm sorry! Well, not really, but a little sorry. It's actually significantly nicer in person than it looked in those eBay photos, which is always nice.

Hey, if anyone here does flickr (you should, it's cool), I made a mixte group there. I can't believe there wasn't one already. There's only one sad photo of my wife's bike so far.

Can you do BMX on that? Oh, probably not with those handlebars, though. That's a really interesting interpretation.

Here's the Raleigh:

I know, the handlebars are NOT at the correct position. I will have to do some tinkering with them.

~1973 Peugeot UE18

Greetings,
Here is an ~1973 Peugeot UE18 that I just picked-up from the good folks at Whippany Cycle in New Jersey. I haven't touched it yet; just needs a little cleaning and repacking of all the bearings.

Here's the Peugeot I've been fixing up for my girlfriend (actually, I originally got it for myself, but it's just too small). Still a work in progress. I'm thinking it's from the middle '70s; does anyone know how to identify it more precisely?

My brother bought an identical bike at Goodwill! I got this Schwinn there too, although I've since given it to my LBS:

I like it, but it looks uncomfortable to me. The grips are too close to the seat. I'd put a stem with a longer reach on it.

True dat -- as much as I like the looks of the Peugeot mixte I've been working on (above), when I ride it I always feel like I'm about to go head-first over the bars. Also, it seems like the mixte design isn't very good for carrying heavy cargo -- the rear end goes all wiggly. That is, the bike's rear end goes all wiggly. Mr. Mixte, do you agree?

Lamplight--I hope your brother likes his mixte. I have an earlier version (pictured in this thread somewhere) that I like much better, but my husband has a fascination with the salmon pink colour of this bike and my Centurion Ironman .

brianinc-ville--I don't know about Mr. Mixte (mhendricks), but this Ms. Mixte has not had any problems hauling my cargo trailer with my Raleigh mixte. I don't know why you would feel that you were going headfirst over the bars, as I actually feel that I am further away from the bars than with my traditional diamond frames.

Mixtes are "twistier" than diamond frames. Grab any mixte by the seat and by the stem and see how easily you can move them in opposite directions. The first time I did that to my wife's Raleigh Super Course I thought the frame was broken.

It seems to me that the mixte frames are a bit "close coupled" I just gave away a real clean Nishiki sport because I just couldn't get comfortable on it, and it steered to quick for me. I'm working on a Raleigh mixte and setting it up with moustache handlebars and stem shifters. Looking for a suntour power stem shifter. No new paint job unless I get carried away!!! I also have a Peugeot mixte, my first road bike, set up for us older guys!!!

i changed it up a little bit. the other bars looked better but the cut & flips are much more comfy, i've been commuting on it lately. the yellow tire is going away soon.

Pegasus

I think this is a bit unusual. It has front and rear racks, front and rear Sachs drum brakes. The rear hub is an internal geared 2 speed with a 5 speed freewheel giving this bike 10 speeds.I believe it is a German bike.Note the curved tube.
