There are both in the area. I have pics around here somewhere from one of my rides. Saw an Amish kid on a scooter by the road. His name was Elmer. We talked for a bit and I asked him about the scooter. He said he brother, Amos, sells them in the shop.
Went to the shop, checked out the scooters $250(!) and talked to Amos. While we talked I looked up and saw a three bladed ceiling fan...that was running on compressed air. Talked to Amos about it and he said it runs at 40psi and he been in use for years with no issues.
I'll see if I can dig up the pics.

i think i got a couple buds talked into the 62 mile CRAM. i still havent got to ride much, i hope i can handle it...

Not that anyone cares, according to my Garmin I burned approx. 3600 calories on my 60km ride last weekend. My mid-ride break I consumed maybe 400 calories.

3600 calories seems pretty high for a 37 miles ride. Not knowing your size and speed though it might be close for you though.
I had a casual ride this morning (46.3 miles, 16.1 mph ave, 2,297 ft of climbing) and only burned 1,363 calories (according to Garmin Edge 500). The calories estimate usually lines up pretty well with my PowerTap energy expenditure but today I was on the CX bike so no Ptap.

So what'd you guys think of the ride today?
I thought the rest stops sucked...the food selection was for crap!
The route was good though....but the wind! At least we had a nice tail wind to push us home.

There's really no way that's accurate... A 40-ish mile ride takes, what, 2:30 (being generous)? Good rule of thumb for a "steady" training rides is 500-600 calories/hour.

The wind was horrid on that long straight leading into the next to last rest stop on the 60. I got in the drops, stayed low, and kept at it...sucked.
As far as food at the rest stops. I'm good with Gatorade, water and orange slices. Last year they had hundreds of fresh-baked cookies at the rest stops in addition to the usual food/fruit.
I think I'll do Tour de Nash next year. Especially if the the Little River ride is the same day as the Tour de Nash.

Really? I wouldn't think it would be that much of an issue. I understand not wanting to ride through because you don't know what's under there, or how deep it is (and up to axles and bottom bracket is pretty damn deep), but why would that make you need to service the acleas and BB when it's standing fresh water? I would think you would do more damage riding through a driving rain for a while, or with a bike on a car-top rack in the pouring rain.

Did the full CRAM century and enjoyed it immensely. Rest stops were spaced out about right also. I will definitely be back. =)

i did the 62. i didnt stop or unclip my pedals until the rest stop 29 miles in and it was easy breezy. it got a lot harder after that, seemed like we went uphill really gradually for several miles then the home stretch uphill with the wind in our face SUCKED! i was spent by the time i got back, im glad i didnt attempt the century. i loved the ride though, i would like to do it again next year. it was a very pretty route with very long roads that i just dont get to ride on around home. thanks for informing me of it in this thread.

It was a great ride..overcast skies so it wasn't too hot (like today)......but the "metric century" really wasn't 100 km or 62 miles...it was shy by a couple of miles.
I ended towing a female tri-athlete from at least the Sango area and we didn't stop until the end......in just under 3 hours.
