Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Both of my road bikes need a bar re-wrap. Good thing I don't care.

Not mine, I hope. The black-and-blue color scheme looks good on it.

I know. Honestly, the whole thing sounds like a joke, but somebody a hefty chunk of cash for a bike entirely made of 1s and 0s.

I like it because it's the thing I do last in building up a bike. Plus it's one of those tasks that's not difficult but rewards close attention. When I was shooting bows'n'arras, I used to enjoy twisting bowstrings for much the same reason.

"Need" is a subjective term here, usually.

Now you're ready to loosen the pinch bolt on the intermediate steering shaft for a 2001-2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo (and many, many other GM vehicles from that era).

Is four months of warm weather too much to ask?

Sadly, yes.

Win! 40 years ago, I only found 9/16 and 1/2” wrenches which are now filling up a dusty box somewhere.

Somewhere nearby, some poor schmo is going through his tool box, his junk drawer, every place he can think of for his 11mm wrench, and wondering whether he'll round off the nut with the 12.

After seeing somebody's thread on a Saeco Cannondale from the late 90s, I remembered just how much I wanted one of those BITD. I did a quick search of Craigs List, and there's one just 5 miles away, for $400. Looks like it's got all the bits, too, right down to the yellow Flite saddle. Including the Spinergy Rev-X wheels, those cool-looking CF ones with the 4 pairs of bladed spokes. "Hmmmmm..... I wonder if those things are safe?" I thought.

So I looked it up online. "Oh," I thought, "Not so much." I mean, apparently I'm sitting AT the weight limit they had WHEN NEW, 23 years ago.

Hard pass.

Those cool looking carbon firber wheels are also known as "Death Stars" due to thier reputation for catastrophic unscheduled disassembly.

Rusted out trunks on cars, and mechanics losing track of them while under the hood.

I had a very hard ride yesterday. When I got home from work, it was hot out, I mean, I had the air on in the truck on the way home. 40 minutes later I went out to load the bike. It was 62 degrees and falling fast. Windy as heck too.
I am nearing that point in conditioning where I am completely gassed, gasping for air, but still able to put out watts and keep going. Heart rate hit 170 bpm yesterday and high 160s for extended periods. Fast guy tried to get away, can't let that happen. Felt great!! Hit 32 mph chasing him down.. lol that was fun!! My legs feel conflicted like they want to be sore but feel to good to do that.
Tomorrow, Lenard to Columbiaville. 70 moles 2800 or so feet. Should be a good ride.
