Garmin uses a somewhat mysterious algorithm that tracks power, heart rate, and of course weight, to spit out a VO2max estimate. You don’t need to do a specific test, just ride along.

That’s impressive. Mine always hovers around 53 no matter what I do.

He’s plenty loose, what we need is for him to tighten up.

Garmin is weird. My unit has apparently determined a FTP for cross-country skiing based on my past activities. I've never been skiing, much less cross-country skiing.

Highest I have seen is 65. Then I go to work for 7 days and it drops back to 59. Rinse and repeat.

Mine sticks at 46 unless I gain or lose a bunch of weight. Not terrymorse level, but compatible with climbing several flights of stairs and a certain amount of age-normed smugness.
I may do an easy one on the trainer at lunch today

no idea what mine is. I can punch above my racing level (cat 2) on a 3-10 min climb, maybe 20 min if I'm real fit. So maybe my VO2 is pretty good?

Speaking of toothpaste, I almost got some name-brand toothpaste at Target the other night, but skipped it instead because $3.50-$5.00 a tube? That's hippy toothpaste prices!!!
Luckily I had a travel tube of Crest at home to tide me over 'til I got out to Walmart to get some Aim. Sometimes I wonder how bad Aim could be to be less than a buck. I mean it seems to work? And it has the crucial screw-on cap, so when it starts getting low you can save it for trips (flip-up caps are terrible for travel).

This is going to be a good looking bike, I think. I'll be doing some thread chasing and headtube/BB shell facing this weekend and it should come together pretty quickly. My main debate is whether I want to use an old set of silver Dia-Compe 400 single pivot brakes or some R7000 ones I've got kicking around. It's going to be a fixed gear so strong brakes aren't exactly necessary but I do love how R7000s feel.
Additionally, it's getting Origin8 high flange/H Plus Son TB14 wheels, Stronglight 93 pista crankset, Tange headset, Velo Orange fillet brazed stem, and Soma HWY1 bars with Cane Creek SCR5 levers until I can find a classic bend bar in 26.0 I like.
Unfortunately the original fork won't clear a 23mm 700c tire (probably built for 19mm or 21mm tubulars ), but I had an old Tange fork from a Tempo powder coated to match that clears 28mm 700c easily so that's getting installed initially.
The frame and original fork will accept 32mm 650b with mid-reach brakes, though, and I've had it built like that before but foolishly sold that wheelset so I'll probably build another set at some point this year.
I'm quite pleased with how the color combo is working!
