Let me say what I really meant. Buy anything, or use the ones you have and get fitter thus winding up with more of an improvement than ANY set of wheels you can buy.
Fitness is one of the last fair things on earth, you can't buy it and no one can give it to you. You have to go out there every day and do battle with the basic human urge to be comfortable.

Thinking about it, fitness equipment can get really expensive too!

Whenever I lose some junk from my trunk, I have to raise my saddle some. Less cushion means the sit bones are closer to the BB. Losing the aero gut also gives me more reach. At some point, a different size frame might make sense. It also means I could go to a wheelset with a lower spoke count. Hmmmm, I have to figure out my needs and research some different brands.

Haven't yet, but the theory/idea is there. Doubtful a new frame will be coming my way, though. The new frames(at least the crabon ones) are getting too wide in the TT area. I'm afraid my massive guads will rub on the TT. I'm also afraid the frames will assplode. Same for the wheels.

On a more serious note............One of these threads will pop up and people will throw out some suggestions. Are these suggestions only available for the latest rear cog #? Or, are they available for the groups/drivetrains 2 or 3 cog #s in the past as well?

I don’t get the people ITT saying not to spend the money. If you have it and can reasonably afford it- good for you, do it.
I look at it all as a cost per use thing. I ride my bike around 260-300 times per year. Over the course of three years $3,000 wheelscomes out to about $4 per use. A $5,500 bike on top of that adds another $6 per use.
$10 per use is a hell of a lot cheaper than a round of golf or a couple of beers and far healthier than both.
Edit: this is also how I justify buying bike stuff to my wife

It’s probably reasonable to assume someone isn’t dropping 3K for wheels on a bike with 9 speed Sora…

So basically, these upgrades are all on newer bikes with the latest/greatest groupsets. I agree about the cost per use. People will spend their money however they want to. I look at it all as cheap entertainment. If it's used and used often, that's what it is. Think about a gym membership or a Zwift subscription. If you're using those 4-5 times a week, it's cheaper than going to see a movie or a sporting event. It's probably cheaper than a weekly case of PBR or bottles of Mad Dog/Thunderbird. I wouldn't know.
