Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just in my eyes: a Venge should never be paired up with a 28. 23 at the most. I would imagine the whole OPQS would use a Venge other than Uran (geez, can't this season start yet?) but they do use Tarmacs other than Cav.

S Works Tarmac does pair up well with a 28. It plays the "role".

Luis, the 404s will come with the zipp brake pads (they're gray) and they work just fine. Also, I'm sure you know but you're not supposed to use any pads on carbon wheels that have been used on alum wheels, as small bits of alum embed in the pads and can damage the carbon.

It will be a "custom" build to what I thought was good for me. I will use it for racing this year and to crush local club rides .

The bike goes as follows:
* 2014 S Works Venge Silver, black and red Frame
* 2014 Shimano Dura Ace 9000 Complete Group 52-36 / 11-28
* S Works Aerofly handlebars
* Zipp 404 FC Clinchers
* Powertap G3 hub
* Specialized Romin Pro Saddle 155mm
* Stem: waiting for fit
* Bar tape: ???
* Tyres: Michellin Pro4 Service Course
* Brake pads: ???

The total build will hopefully come at around 15#s or maybe less and will be one heck of a fast bike!

I've been reading about the Venge in previous posts by BF members and most discussions tend to favor other bikes over they Venge but I have my heart setup for it. Please feel free to point out the things you like, dislike, what would you do different, what would you change, how does it compare to other bikes you've owned etc.

Now that people have been riding the frame for a while I'd like to see more up to date opinions.

Thanks,
and happy 2014!
Luis

I am certain about one thing. You will not regret getting that Venge for a second. Especially having your Roubaix in back up for softer or longer efforts. The Venge is an unadulterated race bike. When in the mood you take it out and thrash it and few bikes will reward you like that bike will. Its perhaps the most road bike like aero bike on the market....not as brutal as a Foil or S5 for example. Did you see the descent at the end of the video? Amazing. Never any foul of sampling a world class race bike...whether you keep it for a long time or not. Life is short, play hard.

I like Enve and debated the same thing myself. I ended up going with Zipp 404s just because they are the better rounded option as you said. Enve has an odd gap between the 3.4 and 6.7.

Hey Chris, not sure if the ones that come from wheelbuilder.com come with the brake pads. If not I'll have to add a set of swissstop black price to the build. How are you liking your new roubaix? I'm sure it's a beast!

I do not have the nads to do what that guy did on that downhill. I come from a motorcycle background and I am a fairly quick race track rider on my sport bikes but a bicycle requires even more cojones. I feel safe in my leather bone sack on the motorcycle with a full face helmet, not so much on my lycra and a piece of foam on my head.

Yea, I wish they did a 4.6 combo.. that would be ideal. The vast majority of people probably agree that the 404 is the perfect all rounder wheel with the 303 right up there. I will pull the plug today at lunch time. Heard good things about the G3 hub as being a solid hub and heard others say that it is a downgrade from my quarq riken (which I consider terrible). Not sure what to do! The best thing would be to fork out the extra dough for another crank system but no use. I may even opt for the stages in the end...

Absolutely loving the s-works. It weighed 14 pounds without pedals! So it's lighter than the R5. The only thing I don't like are the brake pads which do not stop the bike, the zipp pads are far superior. Bike is everything I could ever want in a ride. The BG fit was also well spent $$.

Look forward to seeing pics of the bike. BTW, stick with the zipps!

Well, ended up putting the order for the zipps with powertaps. Somewhat custom made. Held the bike frame in my hands and WOW! light as a feather and extremely beautiful. The gray black and red looks very very classy. It looks like a nice brand new carrera 4s type of ride or maybe a very nice grey audi r8. Not quite the ferrari red but an understated and elegant supercar type.

The parts are here too. I can't wait!!!

BTW if anybody is looking for a 2013 54cm tarmac S Works Framset at a good price PM me. Pharma Quickstep Livery

Have you thought about the Garmin Vector?

You need x amount of clearance between crank arm and rear seat stay as well as x amount of width on crank arm. Spesh Tarmac fails both or should I say garmin failed...you would think garmin would be more open about it but they aren't

What is the least expensive S works bike? I need one. They're so beautiful.

Though maybe a Roubaix is more realistic.

Its Spesh's fault for building a bike that doesn't fit Garmin
