Many cable cutters are designed to cut copper or aluminum. You need one designed for steel. Park or Pedro's come to mind. Mine are Pedro's and they work fine.

Oh I don't "watch" it but it's on the same dashboard as my investment account, because of where I work. It will not make me stray the course; we're not seeing anything yet in the scope of 2008. It's almost the least of my life concerns.

Not sure why everyone went bearish on them last year. There were a couple of selloffs by DKS bigwigs, which might've made some other folks sell some. I figured $125 was about the right price for 'em all year last year. A lot of people got mad at Dicks for getting out of the Fishin' and Huntin' business but there's clearly more money in selling $200 basketball and running shoes

I worked on bikes for years, 13 to 21. I have never had this issue before. We would strip our bikes down on a weekly bases, trade parts, etc. I’ve cut plenty of cables with the tools I have now. I didn’t realize I bought cable meant to hold the international space station together.

Yes, but.

The 401K is created and sponsored by the employer (in a sense), so if you have two employers during a year you could conceivably contribute to both plans as long as you don't exceed maximum contribution restrictions.

I've found the Park Tool needle nose to be the best. And it can be used to crimp cable ends too. And cut housing. And be used like needle nose pliers. It has a spring-loaded normally open function. Very convenient. It costs a little more than $3 though

Yes, that was when I got extra aggressive about retirement planning. It let me get a lot of money in while things were very low. I'd say I'm doing that again now, except I really got back to it once I moved in with AG and had shared living expenses.

No; it can ONLY be contributed to as part of W2 employment income at a for-profit employer (non-profits get the same thing in a 403b as I recall). There are certainly other investment vehicles, but 401k is by far the simplest.

Edit: the "no" is for me, with a single employer. AG has multiple, yes, which caused the issues because they didn't enforce the universal limit correctly.

I went out on a bike I haven't used in a long time. I knew there was a reason, but I couldn't remember what it was. The chain and freewheel don't play nice together. I think I have a five speed chain kicking around somewhere, and will try it if I find it.

I last worked for the man in the mid 70s. I was a chef trainee. I walked away at the ripe old age of 23. I got laid off and never went back to work after that. And then did various things. Construction, mostly. I had a portable sawmill for awhile, and was a farmer for awhile. And a cook off and on. Worked for a man who made and sold tie dye clothing, and I did quite well for a few years, doing that. Made the best money I've ever made. A little weed farming. All of these things were highly satisfying to do, and barely paid a living wage. All the while, I knew I would get a decent inheritance, our current rainy day fund and nest egg. It is quite small by American standards, but reasonably sizeable by Mexican standards. I surprisingly worked enough quarters to get a SSI pension. My wife's pension is, of course much better than mine.
Though she was in the non-traditional workforce too, until her last 10 years, when she settled into an administrative job at the University and got free tuition for her daughter. And we bought eight years worth of pension, from that university.

I never had a 401k but I had a 403b (gov't) which I converted to a self-directed IRA after I retired. Now, I've reached that magical age where I have to take minimum distributions.

Tip: don't tax defer your IRAs. I make 8x the amount that I made when I started making tax deferred deposits to my 403b. Uncle Sam will love me until my IRA peters out which I'll probably never empty.
