Carbon Race Wheelset Suggestions

Hello all,

I'm looking into getting some good carbon race wheels for this coming season and have been looking at a few options. I don't really want to race a very expensive wheelset as that's not something I want to have to worry about crashing when really focused on the race. I've been looking at 2Quik Wheels, Williams wheels, and Boyd wheels. Williams and Boyd have some good aero data, but crash replacement looks to be much better with 2Quik. Does anyone have any experience with any of these wheels? Thanks in advance for the help!

I'd go boyd or Williams because 2quik sounds a little too quick. I want just the right amount of quick.

Also, should have hyperlinked 2quik to generate more site traffic.

I own a set of Williams System 38 carbon clincher and they are a really nice wheel set. I own a set of Boyd Altamonte and although they are alloy, another great wheel set. I am sure the Carbon are just as nice. I think you could go either way and be happy. I would stay away from the others just because I have never heard of them. Boyd and Williams have a good reputation from what research I did prior to buying each set that I have. If I were going to get a deeper carbon wheel I would be hard pressed between Boyd and Williams unless my budget would allow some Enve's

Well, here's their 56mm deep CF clinchers:

https://2quikcarbon.com/product/56-c-clinchers/

Uh huh. Sure. 56mm CF rims, Novatec hubs, and 1,000g a set. Pick any two...

Given that Reynolds RZR tubulars are 986g a set, I'm calling BULL****.

"Rimset is roughly 1000 grams/pair"

That might be the weight of the rims. What is the wheelset weight?

Thanks to all those who actually posted some constructive posts. Those who race enough know crashes happen, and frankly when your going for the big W, you got to put all else out of your mind and go for it.

I think the 1000g weight was rims and you can pick hubs and such. I kind of like the crash replacement and custom build options 2Quik has but know very little about them, hence my original post. However, I've been hearing good things about the build quality of Boyd's too, so I'm thinking about those a little more seriously now. I'll ask again, has anyone else ridden any 2Quiks?

Boyd's or November. The rail 52's with WI hubs is an incredible wheel.

Gotta say, I am a fan of White Industry hubs! However, the Onyx hubs have peaked my interest as well. They supposedly have an instant engagement system on their rear hubs that is immediate (like no forward play whatsoever). I could see the use for races like crits where you're on and off the gas all the time. They had a thread on the hubs on weight weenies here: Onyx Racing Products Road Hub - Weight Weenies
Any thought on these?

Instant engagement huh? Seems to me if you don't get that hub you have an excuse, other than yourself, as to why you didnt win.

Reynolds are way out of my budget, but I do like their assurance program.

I've actually raced in Europe as an elite without contract rider (you'll know what that means if you've raced there yourself) and in the U.S. as a cat.1. I still do, but more for fun and the sake of staying fit.

My focus is on technical questions around different affordable wheel options along with the builds that go with them. My level as a racer should be irrelevant. What's the difference between Boyd, Williams, and 2Quik team sarcasm? You seem to know something I don't.

Open mold (sticker company) vs brands that own their own molds.

I actually raced what were supposed to be open mold rims in Europe and didn't have any issues or complaints with them. We had a local small shop sponsor that bought their rims from a manufacturer and built up the wheels on their end. Are there any known issues in riding a wheel that uses an open mold? Really, the designs look pretty similar between those 3 companies, so I'm wondering how to differentiate which ones are open molds and not and why wouldn't you want to use an open mold if one of them is?
