Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Caloso, how much did your powdercoating cost and what was the length of time the frame was in the shop?

Looks great... go for the hipster stealth theme.

Thanks. It was cheap: $50. And it was only in the shop for a week. But.... It was a group deal and it took a long time for us to settle on a color. And... the workmanship wasn't perfect.

But then again, it was only $50. Well worth it.

Okay, I'm in. Let's see what I've got...

A somewhat dated pic of my 2006 Surly Long Haul Trucker:

It currently has Tektro brake levers, Cane Creek SCR-5 cantis, black tape and different cranks, but that's pretty close.

And now here's a slightly dated pic of my 1987 (ish) Univega Gran Record:

And another one, for good measure:

Between now and those photos, it's been stolen and recovered (minus the lights and seat wedge), has had Kelly Take-Offs installed and is halfway through a new wheel build. Also, the saddle is level, these days. It never saw much use before I got my hands on it, but it has been my primary road ride since October 2006 and will remain so probably until at least mid-2009. It'll even be raced this year. No steel bike need be abandoned. At svelte 24 lbs in these photos, will probably be about 23 with the new wheels and tires.

I also have a 1965 Raleigh Sports... after a fashion. It's been combined, Frankenstein-like, with a fork from a 70's Centurion, and a pair of 27-inch wheels. Considerably lighter and uglier than it was originally, it's my around-town one-speeder - or at least it will be when I get fenders installed. No photos yet, which might be for the best. This thing has to be seen to be believed. But it's not the kind of thing you want to believe in.

I hereby submit my application for membership. Having sold off two aluminum bikes, all of my rides are steel now. My stable consists of:

-- Gunnar Sport
-- Gunnar Ruffian singlespeed fully rigid mtb
-- Marin Pine Mountain hardtail
-- Gunnar Roadie (currently collecting parts to build it up)
-- Miyata Country Runner mtb (frameset only---will be built up to be a beater of some sort)

Sorry I don't have pics of the built Ruffian, and no pics of the Roadie. I'll have to work on that once things warm up around here.

Gunnar Sport:

Marin Pine Mountain (have since switched to Fox F80RLC fork):

Ruffian frame:

Arrrrgh! You guys! All these sweet rides....I want in to the club. Would this get me in? I just about ready to throw down, and this would fit me fine! I even love the color!

Everything on it looks fine, but I've never heard of TA cranks. Any good?

Rides sweet too... however they're concentrating on Ti now. They've stopped producing steel frames. I got mine which was the last few pieces

*just a tad excited .. no steel bike .. yet.*

I have a Badger Cycles steel frame sitting .. just sitting. It's white. I have a red CK headset, Nitto noodle bar .. will get the nitto stem to complement. THEN, today the icing was that the wheels that Ligero is building (red CK hubs, black spokes and I forget the rims) is done, he says and will ship out next week.

Woohoo!!! Okay I'm done beaming .. can't wait to start building
