Never did, we drove there from VA (and NC and NJ). We had to go pick someone up there once. Actually it was the Prince, WV train station but everyone just said we gotta drive to Beckley to pick up Aunt Shirley, et al. They took the train in from MD.

The eastern end of the Hiawatha at the East Portal Trailhead is the western end of the Olympian. So you can park at East Portal in Taft and do out and back rides on each. You need a good light. You hit the 1.66 mile tunnel (one of some 12 tunnels) as soon as you head west on the Hiawatha. There are no lights in the tunnel. And there are drainage channels on each side, so if you stray off the riding surface you will crash. I had 500 lumens and wish I had more. The website recommends at least 350. I think that’s low, but I have old eyes. And you knock off two states because East Portal is in MT and you cross into ID going west through the long tunnel.

We got a small "nuisance" snow of about 3 inches overnight. I put the Saturn in the garage but no need to clear driveway. The drive to work was uneventful.
The bummer is that the roads are all wet and slushy, and temps will not go above freezing until Sunday afternoon when we will be getting rain/freezing rain. Riding this weekend is out.
I see more fake miles in my future.

Watched Don't Look Up last night. Pretty funny, but also sad what it says about our current misinformation environment. Meryl Streep got her head eaten off, so that was good.

Zwift workout with another guy was actually sort of okay. I couldn't synchronize the workout, so I just chased him. He's faster than I IRL, so I a got a nice set of long VO2max over-unders. It was less agonizing than doing it myself.

I just ran across the remains of my dad's silver dollar collection. I bought it from him years ago as he was freaking out over some money thing. I've decided it's time to liquidate it, probably next time I go north. There are 53 of them, dating from 1879 to 1929. And in mostly fine condition.

And my snowbird friends reminded me that we are experiencing normal winter weather. Actually cooler than last year. Nevermind the year without Winter schtik.

Semi-related Q: how many of those needles are you using for your WDT? Since my shop is in shambles, I just drilled and popped 4 in to a cork. I had planned on doing 8 when I get around to a wood handle, but 4 seems to zip through the grounds pretty nicely, so I'm wondering if 8 is overkill. Side note: really good extractions after dial-in this morning. New beans, so I'm not sure how much to attribute to the new puck prep, but nice balance and better body than I'm accustomed to seeing.
