Masters Misc Race Report Thread

I wasn't clear - the fast old chicks may race SW3 or P123 rather than the 50+ - meaning, some people compete in category, others in masters, it's not consistent. Anyway, I'm looking for the "right" race to be in, which i think is probably either the 3s or the 50+, and I can never tell in advance which will be the bigger and/or harder field. This time the winning masters time was faster than the winning cat 3 time and the last-place masters time was also faster than the last-place cat 3 time. That's somewhat unusual - but i think the faster 3's raced in the P123 today because there was a big $ payout. Lots of category options!
Anyway i'm pretty happy with the race.

Saturday: Tour deNez Crit. 3/14 or so. Old course, 1.5 block climb at around 2.5%, tight corner coming in and a left right midway through. About a minute of downhill/flat course between climbs, which turn into 30s intervals at 375-500w depending on how hard folks go. 4800' elevation. Combined 45/55, scored separately.
Buncha hitters including our multi time track WC/WR guy in there.
Felt really good for the first 30 mins or so. Attacked OTF on the climb at one point but pack was on me quickly. Shadowed the 55 hitters, which meant WC and 1-2 other guys. Started to fade a bit at 35mins and my back started to cramp after that. Got caught in a split but we eventually brought things back together with 6 to go. Tried a big push to move up but couldn't get to WC. Side by side with the other (I thought) surviving 55 coming over the top, had a little left to kick in a tiny sprint. He had nothing. WC 1st, guy who I missed 2nd, me 3rd.
29 times up the hill. 29th time up I had my best 20s for the race at 550w.
Came up on my teammate with 6 to go, turns out he got lapped, but finished 7th. Half the 55 field DNF'd.
Barely avoided throwing up after crossing the line. Hard race, good group of guys.
Sunday: State TT, 90+ Tandem
Rode the tandem with my teammate from yesterday. 2 other tandems total, we passed the 70+ guys 5 miles in and that was that. Hey, you race who shows up.

@Heathpack, I blame it all on Our Coach!!! He is the BEST..... !
Seriously though, you don't give yourself enough credit.
Sara: I'm a terrible TT rider.
Me: No, you've improved a bunch and ride a pretty darn good TT. You're just in there with some really exceptional talent.
See? Told ya.

@Racer Ex, you were awesome in that crit. Goodness, there were some heavy hitters in there. MO'R sure made what I thought was going to be The Big Move early in the race, but you guys brought him back. It was hard to not notice you glued to LN's wheel, too. Heck of job!!!!
Congratulations, my coach!
And that tandem. Wow. Yeah, you have to show up to win, but you and Larry - holy cow!!!

A very strong Time Trialist with a big Sprint poses a daunting and unusual challenge for your competition in crits & road races.
Having two disparate ways to win brings confusion, consternation and tactical doubt to your opponents.

I rode the Vie 13 "Geezer Races" at Hellyer again tonight. On the menu was "Scratchapaloosa". Three scratch races. It was three girls vs. more than 15 boys, Cat 1/2 boys, tuning up for track nats. From my perspective, it was hardly a fair fight. I'm not going to bother with a race report, because I didn't race. I didn't even really survive. I have no idea what a fist fight feels like, but they have to be something like what happened to me tonight in that first race.
After the first race, we three gals ganged up on the RD and told him "THAT was NOT fun!" So, he broke out the 60+ men (they were nobodies. just WR holders and National record holders) and combined the girls with them and sent us all out to do a 10 lap scratch race on our own. I managed to stay in for five laps, and then just could not match a jump and stay attached. My legs had just had enough, I had put them through an awful lot over the weekend. I did finish, though.
But, when we rolled out for the third 15 lap scratch race, that was the coup de gras. I lasted, I think, three maybe four laps. There was an acceleration, not even a hard one, and the rubber band popped. I had nothing in the tank left to summon up a chase, so I rolled onto the apron and called it a night.
I've worked pretty hard this week. Chips have all been cashed!

Sounds like a celebratory dinner, with copious quantities of wine, is in order, followed by sleeping in the next day. You've sure earned it over the last few days!

@globecanvas, it looks like it was deleted, which is too bad, because it was good! No wonder Google couldn't find a solution to "gras"
I AM fat!
Okay, coup de grace!

(edit) tho to be clear I wasn't calling anybody fat! just saying that "coup de gras" literally means "fat-slamming!" But I deleted it! Because it was a stupid comment!

Oh, I totally got your point. I didn't see it as stupid at all, it was rather funny!
