Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"Just out of curiosity, what defines a "bent guy?" I have two bents that I ride plenty, but I'll bet I put more miles on my road bike than a lot of guys who consider themselves roadies. "

A quote from you that seemed to indicate a puffing of chest that somehow you felt you were better than riders here or are logging amazing miles that would make us all bow down and say...DAMN BOY you ride the hell out of things and we all just need to bow down and tell you we are all wrong...a response from me....

Maybe you should go back and reread some of your blog entries before saying my writing doesn't have a point.

I'd be more interested in lowracer explaining his output number, his batmobile and why he hasn't broken the sub 4 hour solo century.

Actually, I'd like to read more about the two guys raising money to do 2 man RAAM this year.

Here's an article on the 2005 Michigan Time Trial results (PDF). See page 4.
"Geyer finished 15th overall (57:33) with [Chris] Evans coming in 23rd place 39 seconds later (58:12)"

owndizzled

I have no problem with recumbents, provided they dont run me off the road. But when people start pissing contests about how they're faster than any road cyclist, it just amazes me. Claiming you're better than a road cyclist because your recumbent is faster is like someone claiming they're a better road cyclist because they can afford a set of 404s

I can do 200 miles in under three hours in my Mazda. So what?

If people get this riled up over the road bike versus recumbent bike debate over an INTERNET FORUM, I suppose fist fight is in order if you actually met each other face to face.

Many bent bikes, and especially lowracers, and steered by body lean just like a peformance racing motorcycle. If I move the tiller more than an inch, it's a 90 degree turn. Still, on slow speed u-turns you will rub the chain. Takes a while to get used to.

This is not funny. This is not clever. Do you have a vanity plate that's not clever too? I could care less about the roadie versus recumbent issue, but if you are going to post things that are supposed to be funny don't suck so bad at it. This is the equivalent of telling Bridge jokes.

"A fellow had made a bad bid and gone for 1400.

“I'm sorry,” he said to his partner, “I had a card misplaced.”

Asked his partner innocently, “Only one card?”"

KuKusz,
My apologies for not posting info about additional diamond frame bicycle rider support aids including the neck support, back vertebrate support and wrist support systems available in 2008. I will post some photos and details of the complete product line after I get more info from the sales rep in Colombia.

I still call BS on his numbers. If you can put out that wattage for 1h your aerobic base is pretty high and would have no problem riding for 4 hours + at a pretty fast pace. If he was a track guy or only did 1 hour rides then I would agree but he dosent.....

You can ride 200 miles in 10 hours but cant ride 100 under 4? Either your power profile is unique or you lie.

uh, there is a big difference between a 4 hour century and a 5 hour century. A 20 mph solo average isn't a big deal. 25 mph over a 100 miles is quite tough. With the amount of turns and hills on the course, you must maintain at least 28mph on the flats to make up for the slower speeds on the uphills and the turns you have to deal with on real life roads. On the 100 mile race course we had to deal with a few turns with some gravel on the surface that SHOULD have been swept off......which I feel wasn't................ a few 1/2 mile inclines above 6% that slows your average speed down. I've come close to the 4 hour mark but maybe need a better course to do it on. Most riders would need a large paceline to come close or break a 4 hour century and they aren't putting out maximum wattage when they are drafting. They are resting waiting for a turn to pull.
