In Connecticut you can throw a stone without hitting a rock
Ever notice that everywhere you look there are stone walls?
My son lives in Stamford just south of the Merrit.

Too tired to ride today, and had other things to do so I finished building my middle kid's bmx race wheels. I think they're the prettiest set of wheels I've ever built. Purple hubs and headset, rainbow anodized spokes and a rainbow of spoke nipples. Managed to keep the budget at 400. Bombshell lied about their rim weight so the pair comes in at 1260 grams which is about 180 grams more than wanted. But the new wheels are still just over 600g lighter than the old set, has 4 times as many engagement points, smoother freewheel spin and smoother bearings. But we're riding the Erie Canal starting next week so no races for the next 2 weeks.

Really nice Manorville wander this morning at 7. Started early to avoid heat. Saw at least 20 or more turkeys plus a lot of deer. Light traffic, hi 60's, no wind. My Hammeread needs it's speed sensor to be calibrated, this was actually 36 and change miles. Wonderful area to ride.

Finally getting to do the Erie Canal, this was supposed to be last year's tour. We made it to Brockport today after 2 days. Hope is Freeport tomorrow weather permitting. Currently 60%chance of thunderstorms so might have to stop early and hit the museum of play. Rochester's is the biggest I've ever seen, abouthe the size of Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn's combined. Didn't expect the mid 90s temps and matching humidity, if it continues we'll have to keep the days shorter and not make the end.

Grandparents took each of them to Disney when they turned 5, they talk about it as much as they talk about touring Prince Edward Island so I'm sure this will give them more to remember. We're finishing by taking them to Enchanted Forest. To keep them happy along the way we hit the museum of play we'll do at Marie among the Iroquois, and Herkamer diamond mine as well as plenty of swimming though not in the canal.

@ Glenn, that's too warm for me, I'm good to about 85-86 if it's humid. I could ride at that temp anytime when I was in Santa Fe where the humidity was 7%. Not here. I suffer for days after.,

Today was a rest day, the heat and humidity have been in the 90s every day keeping the mileage lower than we'd like so when we stopped yesterday it was in Newark, NY; was supposed to be 20miles east of Syracuse instead. Weather is supposed to be a lot better tomorrow and Sunday so we're going to try and make up some miles but looking like we won't make the end. Still a good effort and the kids have done well.
Lock 30 in Macedon has locks you can cross, took me back to the days when I was the kids' ages and lived on the Seneca River, used to cross the lock which was narrower and with no second railing, on a regular basis to go to the comic shop. This was a special one to get to the park as the other locks have all been closed to pedestrians but were more like the style I was used to.
Rochester has some of the nicest scenery with several bridges, a railroad overpass and rock cut canal. Rode from here to Pittsford where we stopped at the Pittsford dairy barn for Fiz Pop, a local Rochester soda that's worth buying while in town. Also stopped at the shop I used to work in and they had a new 2007 Felt TK2 track bike in my size hanging out upstairs. Worked out a deal and now have to carry another bike back to the Island. Plan to test it out at TTown next Sat and at the wed race following that at Kissena. The oldest will be racing the NY State Junior Track the last Sat of the month so hopefully this ride will get her a better result.

Tannus Armour
Tannus Armour
Flatted due to broken glass in Floral Park, Tuesday. Ordered Tannus armour on Amazon and received it on Saturday. Installed it and took 13 mile test ride around dusk , through Lattingtown. Works great, I wouldn’t know it was there.
Someday I hope to install an 84t chain ring, to see how fast this bike can go with its aerodynamic advantage. But sprints aren’t conducive to long rides, so it’s not a priority.

We made it to Lock 20 in Utica on Sunday and were supposed to hit Schenectady yesterday with a trip to Enchanted Forest Water Safari today but the weather was against us. So we hit Enchanted forest, their reward for their efforts yesterday, and sure enough the rain today was everything we expected from the weather report, from the drive home through it, it would not have been a good day of cycling. Still quite the accomplishment.

First ride yesterday in a couple of weeks, 40 miles after a lot of booting it over the mountains of WY and MT. It's startling and smile inducing to look down barely 20 minutes in and see 6 miles behind. Last week, that was a days work.

Ride report from 19 August, I’ve just finished compiling, editing, captioning and cropping the photos, which were all screenshots, and are reproduced here in glorious 400kb resolution...
Remote start from Kew Gardens LIRR, heading west on Queens Boulevard, then taking the Queensborough Bridge, and 7th Avenue to Penn station. 14 miles, 1:51 elapsed time.
Before the actual bike lane begins

I’m guessing that’s salt water damage from sweat...

They are not corroded, just need a dab of fresh paint. Maybe over the winter when I overhaul the bike.
